Yeah, Callahan surely influenced me to root for the Lightning moving forward among other things that made me switch , but that is way over the top. Ha ha!

to you and dactyl I just want a cup ONE CUP for now haha. If he does that the contract works out in SPADES haha. I love his style he is gonna get hurt but I accept the hurts I still love zetterberg and datsyuk for the wings and they are now always injured:( Yet will still love them no matter what.

I agree, if the Lightning win the cup, it works out. Just like trading away Amonte, Gartner, Weight, Patrick and others did for the Rangers in 1994.

Callahan inspires the same dedication to me I loved you guys before you got rid of a few players went after richards nash etc.. I loved a lot of your guys the way they played the style the toughness. I was sad when you kept letting them go:)

It's been a transition, but it would be nice to see the Rangers become a team that can score again. The early-mid 90's Rangers were among the most balanced teams I've ever watched, especially the 1992 Rangers, who should have won it all.

That is my style of player I get the scorers the finess guys get all the love but not from me. I like the hard nose players old school and love anyone who goes to the net.

I agree, I always loved the scorers growing up, my all-time favorite is and always will be Gretzky, but others among my favorites include Messier, LaFontaine, Yzerman, Sakic, Modano, Forsberg, Leetch, Bure, Lindros. A lot of guys on that list are very good two way players. Right now my currents are Kopitar, Datsyuk, McDonagh, Doughty, Stamkos.

You guys have to realize the biggest thing is we have too many passers on this team too many outside players who do not do what Callahan does. He is going to change how a lot of these guys play and we already as fans see it more guys at the net driving more guys sticking up for one another etc..

That's why I think he'll fit in and it won't be a problem as long has not counted to be one of the top-3 primary scorers. He's proved before in the past that he can't be relied upon to be the go-to-guy, or the guy right behind him. He's a like a swiss army knife, but a complimentary player.

Is all good I would have liked him at 5 million but would have payed tomas holmstrom the same we gave cally and not lost sleep on it myself. Cally brings more the homer did for detroit:)

He'd still be in NY if he wanted 5 million and wasn't asking for the NTC, but I do agree with you on Holmstrom, he brought little things to Detroit that they've been lacking since his departure.

Thats my entire point with callahan he has already brought things we need to take the next step hopefully it pays off in the long run:) He is over paid but everyone is mostly lol.

Callahan will help the Lightning's young talent and possibly even Stamkos.

So to me he has already paid for himself no matter what happens in the future. I know he is just one piece and he helped us add two huge ones imho in boyle and stralman which might be even more important or just as important:)

You're going to love Boyler and Stralsy. Don't listen to the *******s who constantly take craps on Boyle. The guy is one of the best PK'ers in the league and is one of the better bottom-6 players as well. Just don't expect 20 goal seasons from him and you'll be ok. He might not put guys through the glass, but he's a decent puck possession guy and he knows how to raise his game in the playoffs.

Tyjo was our best guy to go straight to net last year he is our smallest guy pretty much so if he just installs a little of that to others? Also im huge fan of all of these guys on d side and the difference of us just being an ok team and a great team is going to be defense two way play and pk. That has been addressed majorly imho with cally boyle and stralman so can live with the contract even if he gets injured forever.

TBL has vastly improved with the additions. They're a team to be excited about.

So I 100% understand you guys having trepidation but my expectations are lower than the salary and is just part of doing business to me some guys get overpaid but each is a vital piece if you want to go all in and win a cup:)

I know you'll be fine, but there will be others that will get on him for not scoring enough. I did it while he was a Ranger, the lack of playoff scoring always bothered me with him, something which I got flak for on the Ranger boards on here.

P.S. See i remember the cup year had season tickets and is nothing like it in this world so I get what your saying on your cup run:) Is mind boggling if you fall in love with something to reach that high:) That is what I am hoping callahan is a piece on small piece of the puzzle that gets us lord stanley anything on top of that is awesome and the money is money we needed him we have a big definciency or lacking of his style of play and I truly think he will pay off especially with the young kids in that they will mimic his style at times and maybe just maybe change us into a stanley cup team.

Your view of Callahan is similar to mine of Marty. Although it might have cost us a bit to get him, I think this can pay dividends if he comes in and provides us that something we were missing. The Rangers needed a scorer. TB needed that swiss army knife. I think it'll work out in the end for both teams. I think Marty will have a decent year this year.

Rangers fans and others are worrying about center depth, yes, but I think Marty will be even more motivated to get another cup before his career ends. Nash came into training camp losing a lot of weight and looks even faster than ever before. You can see the weight loss in his face. Nash will return to form and having Marty in our system for a full year will help.

Is not an overnight waive a magic wand thing lol. Everything has to click you got to have luck seeing eye pucks etc.. not run into an unreal goalie lol and does take some toughness as we have seen in last many years and no matter what he brings callahan brings a certain swag and toughness so again the contract? We can live with it here cause is something we had to have. I dont like the money but I still dont like palat's and johnsons raises and everyone on this board would say im nuts hahaha.

No, it's a process and by the time we really are able to see who the trade benefitted more in the end, both of us might not be on these boards anymore.

I am cheap though haha. I want things for less but when we over pay flipper by a million callahan by 1.5 you live with it cause you know it makes you that much closer. You learn to accept is part of this game now:)

I might be among the minority, but I'd rather have Flip than Brass. I've liked his game for years as a #2 center. Does a lot of good things there. If you overpay a guy like that by only 1 mill in free agency, then you're doing a world of good, capwise. Try telling Sather that. He overpaid Tanner Glass by about 1 mill. :help:

I pictured TBLightning24 to be older.

And Hose is a hipster. He wouldn't have a tattoo of a well-liked player such as Callahan. Brian Lee or Anders Lindback, baby!

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan joined NHL Live on Monday to discuss the Lightning's chances in the 2014-15 regular season, which starts Thursday against the Florida Panthers at Amalie Arena.

"It's always good to get that first game going," Callahan said. "We're gearing up and getting ready to go. To get a full training camp under your belt and have a family here, I definitely feel like a big part of this organization now."

Callahan was acquired from the New York Rangers at the NHL Trade Deadline for Martin St. Louis. He signed a six-year contract on June 25 to remain with Tampa Bay and is a key component to a team expected to not only contend in the Eastern Conference, but go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"It's expectations, that's all it is," Callahan said. "You still have to go out on the ice and perform. It's a long season. For us we have to control those expectations, realize in the room that we still have to go on the ice and perform and get better each night. It's a long season so we have to make sure we're on an upswing and hopefully we can meet those expectations at the end of the season."

Good interview but I have to say that I can hardly wait until the day when they will stop bringing up the fact that he was traded for MSL everytime Cally does something.

Anyone hear when/if he is going to get an "A"?
Cooper has said they're going to have rotating "A"s this year.

Last season Stamkos had a permanent "A" while Carle and Thompson shared one. When Stamkos became captain, Brewer got the permanent "A".

Maybe they're going to rotate both "A"s and not just one though. Possible candidates for alternate captain:

Ryan Callahan
Matt Carle
Eric Brewer
Brenden Morrow
Victor Hedman
Valtteri Filppula (?)
Anton Stralman (?)

My bet is they do the home/away thing with Carle, Brewer, Callahan, and Hedman, so not to strip anyone of an A and to reward Hedman. If not Hedman, then Flip.

In the interview Cooper did yesterday it sounded like they are just going to go a few games and then decide (I’m thinking becuase Cooper and CO have had so much to think about with how the roster will look so that have been their main focus) but who knows, I don’t think they can go wrong no matter who will wear it becuase they have such an amazing amount of leadership in the room from all ages and players, maybe they will rotate, as long as it runs smothly it should be fine.

I think we definitely see a rotation because this roster has a hell of a lot of leadership on it. Ironic I have all our Rangers up here. I have Boyle chosen because he was lead by example like Thompson. No one got this team pumped like 44 did and I think 11 will go out and do the same.

I think that might be it though. Are there still 3 alternate captains or just 2 now? I've never gotten a clear answer.

In general? It's either 1C/2A or 3A.

If it was me I would have either Callahan or Filppula (whoever they want to give an ‘A’ to) and then rotate the other ‘A’ between Brewer and Hedman so that next season, if they don’t re-sign Brewer, Hedman can get it full time. But if they have even more players fitting then it would be tough to do that.

3 letters in any game. In time I think we're going to wind up with only Hedman and Callahan wearing As. Maybe Carle and Hedman will alternate for a while.

For this season, I doubt anyone will get stripped of a letter. Which means Carle and Brewer will probably keep them. Brewer will likely be gone after this year, so there's no point in stripping him.

I would like the idea of giving Flip a letter because he was really the catalyst for a lot of the positive changes that have happened with the team. He sets a fantastic example on the ice. But unfortunately I don't see how he gets one.

Carle wore an A over Brewer last year.

I don't care if he carries a letter or not, he has proven he is a big part of this organization and has already made his stamp on this team. I just want him to have an excellent season and help this team win.

I'm riding the hype train, I don't care about what you did in the past it's all about preseason production and being the greatest prospect of all time.

I think it's clear we need to make room for these guys. Getting rid of Flip and Tyler Johnson would free up valuable salary and I'm tired of watching them float around while our prospects are trying to break the lineup.
