Callahan usually ranks in the top 100 in fantasy and other lists, top 50 is pushing it.

True, he will always be one of those players who will never get the credit he deserves because he will never be in the top of the Fantasy ranking because he’s not really a flashy player who score a tons of goals but he’s very good at what he does and the truth is that I wouldn’t want him to play any other way then he does now (I would love to see him score a bit more but I prefer that he’s a good two-way forward instead of just focusing on scoring, especially with TB). All-in-all I agree with Jon Cooper when he said “he may not be a top-10 scorer but he’s good at making other players top-10 scorers†and that’s a lot more impressive than some might think.

There has also been a lot of debate and comparison with Ryan Callahan vs Dustin Brown

IMO..

Callahan > Brown

I don't care how many cups Brown has....

Unless you are winning a Conn Smythe award a cup is a team effort.

Bold?

I know your Ryan's boy but brown doesnt miss games,, the only thing so far ryan has on him is he has played less got into league later so might have more legs for a longer period of time.

These guys are pretty much carbon copies besides cally blocks shots. Brown isnt asked to do that as much as ryan. Brown probably also got alot more power play time but they are pretty equal in everything.

One guy can make the difference in playoffs of winning a cup. It is the reason we have cally on our team. Hopefully he can be brown when it counts. Or better.

Hmm comparing their careers they are close but I think Cally edges him because Cally is a better two way forward, scores more goals, and like you said blocks shots which puts him higher up in the defense top forward list.

If you look at the last 3 or so seasons, Cally has much better offensive numbers than Brown even with dealing with those injuries.

I said this earlier in the year, but because of Cally missing those games, he actually has less miles on him that a lot of his peers do. So he likely has more to go.

Yeah, Ryan is my boy, just like Blue. ;)

The scoring is pretty even brown had 5 good years in a row and showed up when it counts:) go look it up on links I gave you. It is really even. That is the great thing if we can get ryan to be brown in the playoffs:) GOLD lol.

I really do like the miles hope he can avoid the injuries with taking so many shots and work his stick more:)

The great things all these guys bring is leadership grit toughness non stop motors and that factor of never giving up or giving an inch. That makes others do the same. Ryan was something we really needed. Its going to change everything over the long haul imho.

I am hoping for ryan callahan to get 15 points in a 20 some game cup run:) That happens we have a real shot!! I am a detroit fan so old school on what people do during the season. I don't really care what anyone does till the playoffs than it gets real!! I expect Callahan in the playoffs to be a difference maker. He has it in him and can't wait to see it.

I strongly believe Callahan will have some of his best seasons and post seasons with Tampa. I don't think Cooper is like Torts with blocking shots, so if he is more conservative he will not get injured and will put up more points.

Less than 2 months to go, getting excited here!

If he scores 60 points great but we just need him to be ryan Callahan I'm not worried about his points.

I just can't believe he left. He was our greatest player in franchise history. I've never seen a player so butt hurt or ego driven before in my life. I mean how does this happen? We were on a great season and he decides to leave? Wtf? Is it weird that I'm still confused by this?

Well myself, I am over the trade, hate the Rangers now, and am 100 percent into this team. It took me awhile to really grasp the trade but then all the personal crap happened to me, and it was just fate for me to root for this team moving forward.

I doubt MSL is going to be playing much longer after this next season. So Tampa was going to part ways with him soon anyway but the way he left this team was not in a good way and really burned some bridges it would seem.

Trust me, Callahan might not put up the points like MSL did but he is going to set a good example for all the young players, and still put up solid numbers. He also can shut down the other teams offense, something MSL can't do, especially now. You saw Cally's defense abilities against Columbus and the Islanders, so he can play both sides of the ice very well. Going back to MSL, his defense had been awful, and was a giveaway machine since joining the Rangers not sure how he was with Tampa.

If Tampa fans think they lost out on that trade, they need to re-evaluate that trade. Just one example. would not have gotten Stralman or Boyle if Callahan was not traded. In fact, you should be thanking MSL for being a little baby, and demanding a trade, because Tampa has a window of several plus seasons unlike the Rangers to compete, imo.

As confusing as it may be, his departure needed to happen. Out goes a player that didn't want to play with the Bolts and in comes Ryan Callahan who loves this team and wears his heart on his sleeve. He changed the identity of the Bolts for the better when he came in. He also brought in Stralsy and Boyler to help.

The kids and even Steven Stamkos himself look up to Cally and emulate his example. I'm really looking forward to this new season. We may not have Marty, but Cally and the Bolts have come up with different ways to get Stammer the puck and also Cally is always parked in front of the net. The way I feel about it is, Coop gave him the creative freedom to help Cally while AV didn't (no offense to him)

You definitely hit the nail on the head with this comment, you could see the change in the younger player when he came to the team for the better and you can tell that what he brought to the team helped them out a lot and I can’t wait to see him take the next step in the career and play a whole season with the Bolts + he will be playing his 500th NHL game this season so big personal milestone for him.

Tre truth is that I don’t think Callahan ever will get the credit he deserves for having just as positive of an influence on the young players on the Rangers because I don’t think players like Zuccarello, Kreider and Hagelin would be the players that they are if they hadn’t had Callahan as their captain and someone to learn from just as I see young players on the Bolts like Palat, Johnson (both who were already good defensively but took it to a whole new level), Brown and now Drouin and Kucherov becoming better in both end of the ice, just like SFY wants them too.

And to make it clear, by Callahan being someone to look up to I don’t just mean how he plays on the ice but also how he got where he is, he was drafted in the 4th round in 2004 and as the Rangers organization have admitted they didn’t really know much about him and he was more of a filler pick and he played in the AHL before joining the NHL full time when he was 23 (the same age as Palat and Johnson were last season), he is the poster boy of how you can go as far as you want as long as you’re willing to work hard for it and never give up and having that in the locker room with a lot of young players is nothing but positive.

That is St. Louis. Always been that way and always will be. He got away with it here because we worshiped him. Can't wait to see what the NY media does to him when he consistently does it up there.

Oh yeah, can’t help feel a bit bad for Lundquist having to play with him AND Tanner Glass next season, especially since they lost two of their best defensive forwards (Callahan and Boyle) and one of their best defensive defensemen (Strålman). There was one goal especially where MSL was on the ice when he was one the ice and he just couldn’t do anything right, he lost his stick, then he was the one who screened Lundquist and failed to clear the net, and then on top of that he tripped over Lundquist so that he couldn’t stop the goal. There was also one of the goals in the first game against Montreal where he just stepped aside on a breakaway just giving the Montreal player a free pass to score. And then not to forget the failed shot block he tried to do against the Kings where the puck bounced of him and into the net. Now he’s gotten away with it so far because the team were already in a good position to make the play-offs and they mostly faced team who were also struggling defensively but if he would have been better defensively then maybe they wouldn’t have screwed up 4 2-goal leads. Like I said if he doesn’t improve there then I feel bad for Lundquist and a bit bad for him because the NYC media is not easy to deal with.

I can't wait to see where the first round pick lands this year. I like Cally, but I really get a feeling that there's going to be some kind of like cosmic destiny thing that's going to make this trade look HORRIBLE for NYR.

With Richards gone, Nash is going to be getting most of the focus, I think MSL will get a little criticism but not much compared to Nash who does make almost 8 Million a year.

There is no pressure really on MSL who Ranger fans seem to be in love with the guy because of their recent run to the SCF and the emotion he brought when his mother passed away. Yet, I believe there is this guy named Henrik Lundqvist on the team who had some small part in getting them that far, but I could be mistaken. :sarcasm:

It's funny about Nash, if they did not have that cap hit, Richards would of likely not been bought out, and Callahan would of most likely been re-signed. So a lot of the fans know Nash's cap/salary is huge so they expect him to be scoring close to 40 goals, like Gaborik used to do with the Rangers. Basically my point, MSL is sitting in the passenger seat, not the drivers seat for the Rangers.

So, all things happen for a reason, and remember the Rangers forced Gaborik to waive his NMC.

I agree with the comments above. Its just strait sad that somebody would throw away their legacy just because he didn't get picked to play in the olympics right away.

Tampa fans and his team mates were of little concern for MSL who was the team captain. Money, his ego and being in New York were the only factors he considered important.

I think that is a bit harsh. He didn't get anymore money with the move to the NYR. I do not think it was an ego thing either. We now know that his mother was sick, and later died during the playoffs. Personally if I had been in the same situation and my GM had the power to get me closer to my mother who was ill, I would have done the same thing.

Can we please just move on from this MSL hate. He was a great player for TBL and helped us win the cup in 2004. I am sure once his contract is up with NY and he said I want to go back to TBL we would all be like, "Welcome Home!"...

As I said in the other thread, why wouldn’t he just say so, people would have understood it and he wouldn’t have ruined his legacy here, he could have said “thanks for everything you’ve done and I wish that I could stay but my mother isn’t feeling well and I want to bring my family closer to them†– simple, to the point, won’t result in any questions and won’t leave fans pissed off, could have been a win-win for him, even fi he had even pulled a little white lie there with the “wish I could stay†– art.
Besides I though his parents live in or near Montreal, wouldn’t the Habs have been a better choice then?

There is no room for him as a player on this new team so if that would be what he wanted then no but if he wanted to come back to work in the office then maybe, but he would still be working for Yzerman.

Well, as we see most years, loosing in the Stanly Cup finals with a team that got hot can be damning (Look at how NJ melted down). I'm not saying NY isn't better than that NJ team, but it wouldn't be crazy if NY didnt make the playoffs either.

Its plausible if Lundqvist gets injured for extended period of time, like 50 games, but their core is still good enough to get into POs as a wild card atleast.

Its possible even with a healthy Henrik. They took a big step back on the blueline, and bottom six.
