What type of hockey is that?

There isn't a team or system in hockey that doesn't employ, nor a coach that doesn't relish, players like Callahan.

Assuming they aren't looking for obscene contracts, of course.

Stone age hockey. The stuff Tortorella wants to play. Collapse in your zone and block shots at every opportunity.

wish cally all the success in the world. Now if only his Richards 2.0 partner would put up the same numbers

Nope, nothing to be bitter about. Callahan was a solid ranger and a good hockey player. But he wants to be paid like a great one, which he is not. Bottom line is he isn't worth 6M this year, how on earth can you justify paying him that 6 years from now? Seriously.

This is the part I'm confused about, not trying to be a jerk here. But who are you to say he is not worth 6 million? How do you even put a price tag on a player? You know these RFA/UFAs are going to want a pay day, like Brassard who is going to be asking for close to 5 million. Is he worth it? A lot depends on buying out Richards, its supply and demand, and a reason why Sather who was a hyprocrite in saying no one is worth 8 years and 7 million dollars, yet he signs Richards to a 9 year deal just south of 7 million. :shakehead

Happy for him.

If Rangers don't win the Cup I hope it's Tampa.

I want the Rangers to win, if they get knocked out, will be rooting for Tampa.

But it's interesting, both St Louis and Cally can win a cup if either team wins.

Callahan with another goal tonight to tie the game and take it to OT. He now has 9 points (5 G , 4 A) in 12 games since joining Tampa Bay.

Good thing we gave up a 1st and 2nd pick, the 10 year younger player, and the better all around player.

I can't think of the last time Cally played this well. He is on fire now. He is like Lightning, no pun intended, lol. Maybe go back to the end of last season, he had like 4 or 5 multi point games in the end.

It's sad actually. But I'm a long time Rangers fan who watches the games.

I've been a short time Ranger fan, but am watching both teams now also. If these people saw these games, then they would know. He has been amazing since being traded to Tampa, and has points to show for it.

Some people become bitter at what a player is worth and should not get paid this or that, they make it sound like it is their money being spent.

I hear ya. I'm sick of overpaying for the big name softies that can't handle NY, while at the same time getting rid of guys who work hard and are team players. And getting rid of draft picks year after year. Kind of like the Knicks, but not THAT bad...

Art Ross Trophy winner...
70+ point player each year...

Yeah clearly Cally was a better player.

Was? Is. Art Ross measures points. MSL won last year. The Rangers are in a playoff race this year. TB fans see the difference in the last month.

No. I'm basing it on more than career points scored.

I understand this is a tribute thread, and Cally was a great Ranger,

But please do tell what you're basing your opinion on that makes Cally a "Better all around player" than MSL.

Yeah some 'team player', asking for 6.5m annually with a NMC! :biglaugh: Compare that to McDonagh and Girardi who recently signed fair contracts, now those are team players.

'Working hard' alone doesn't warrant that absurd overpayment. And frankly, Callahan's play the past season and a half showed a lot of dogged effort.

It's weird how a player can rev it up once down the stretch in his career and is now renowned as a playoff quality player.

Callahan has been a trash playoff perfomer for the Rangers.

Did I seriously just read that someone said they thought Cally was a better player overall than MSL? I mean, I must be seeing ****, right?

MSL has been the more effective player BY FAR throughout their careers.

6 goals isn't it? MSL is still zero, that one you can't forget...good for Cally! He's scoring big goals, 3 games ago was a game winner and last night was a game tying goal in the 3rd period, Lightning are 7-1-4 since he arrived...

Yeah he has been scoring clutch goals . Even if you go back when he was still with the Rangers he has 14 points (7 G, 7 A) in 20 games.

Since fans wanted to throw him under the bus after only 20 games into this season, might as well post what he has done in his last 20 games.
