Winger Zion Nybeck has dominated the Swedish Junior leagues this season. He quickly showed he was too advanced for the Under-18 league, picking up six goals and 10 points in four games. Moving up to the Under-20 league didn’t slow him down. Nybeck scored 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points in 42 games in the SuperElit. It earned him a look in the SHL. He scored one goal in 15 games for HV71 in limited ice time. Nybeck was also an alternate captain for Sweden at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, picking up one goal and four points in five games and winning a bronze medal. Overall, he had two goals and 12 points in 13 games for the Swedish Under-18 Team.

Last season, Nybeck put up 17 goals and 24 points in 14 games at the Under-18 league level. He also had 17 goals and 43 points in 35 games in the SuperElit. He had the most assists in the league. Nybeck was named the top Swedish Under-18 player. He also played at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships. With two goals and five points, he helped Sweden to gold. He also scored three goals at the Under-17 WHC, winning bronze.

Will play on a line with Önerud, & Holmström reported as the second line in the first pre-season game today.

Gunler.

He is my #10 I think.

Was just inquiring about Noel in another thread. Have heard a lot about the top two and almost nothing about him. Was also curious as to why he slid so much from the midterm to the final rankings according to Central Scouting.

I really hope he's still there for the Leafs at 122. I don't think they'll take him, but I would love it if they did. He's small, but at this point in the draft I think its worth taking a shot on him. Here's hoping someone from the Leafs sees this and picks him!

How did Carolina get both Nybeck and Gunler? Those are some of the best swedish offensive talents in a while and should both have gone in the first

Gunler has consistency issues, and Nybeck has height issues.

I am aware, but those can make them slip until 20 or something, not until outside of the first. Nybeck is a physical player who wins a lot of duels, it is ridiculous how much scouts value height without looking at strength and explosiveness.

Nybeck also has average skating, NHL teams are very vary of small, combine that with average skating and they're even more skeptical.

Nybeck at his worst will be a star in Europe, though.

I like his game a ton, he's just great with the puck but him falling like this was to be expected. I have a hard time picturing his game translating well to NHL hockey. Definitely not a bad mid round pick though.

Bad news for swedish fans. Carolina already stacked forwards

7 points in 13 games.

Keep in mind his team, HV71, is very deep. They have bascially 4 scoring lines. In a "normal" club he would probaly be PPG where he would get more ice-time. But he decided to stay with the club in his heart.

Whats crazy is that a team like HV71 with their deep history and historically strong teams got relegated

a bump, got some early hype in 2018, what kind of prospect he is today?
in 2022.

Undersized scorer who has had his development stalled a little bit. Caught in the numbers game at his club and then a long-term injury. Will be a huge year for him starting over with a new team in the second league. I think he will be a good scorer at that level but in terms of NHL outlook I would say his game is a bit too much only about the points for him to be considered anything for the next couple of years. Skill level very high but probably needs to go through the steps of proving that he can do it a full season in Allsvenskan, then doing the same in SHL/AHL for one or two years and then challenging really and that's a tall order.

Solid season in Allsvenskan for AIK but with the depth in the Hurricanes organization doesn't seem likely he receives an ELC.

Any chance he garners interest as a UFA?
