To be fair, anyone in their right mind knows Tolvanen was the real rookie of the year. There have been rumors that only Russians are given the award and that Tolvanen’s departure for the NHL at the end of the year took him off the list. Their seasons were not comparable.

In the KHL a player needs to attend the award ceremony to be eligible for an award. Tolvanen chose not to show up, so the award went to the next best rookie, Kravtsov, who was in attendance.
Yea it’s a ridiculous and stupid way to decide award winners, but it’s not based on a pro-Russian or anti-NHL bias.
