I was just about to ask this in a different thread before this one, more appropriately was bumped.

Is Tom Wilson, considered to be a much better PF prospect then Tyler Biggs. Statistically speaking, Wilson is doing much better than Biggs, and is a year younger to boot.

I would say there's a pretty decent gap between Wilson and Biggs, the difference in my view being that Wilson actually has top six potential. Biggs tops out as a bottom six grinder IMO. I don't think either of them should have gone as high as they did however

Glad to be wrong about him.

At the time I wanted Teuvo or Vasilevsky, but extremely happy with Wilson developing like he was expected to.

From watching both play in the OHL, I would say that neither is above the other. Wilson and Biggs are both borderline top-6 players and I would certainly be more comfortable projecting them as top9 forwards.

Personally, I have watched Wilson play over a handful of times this season and I still don't see a whole lot of offensive skillset to dub him a top-6 player. I prefer Biggs to Wilson at this point in time (and I have never been a Biggs fan but he is growing on me)

He looks a bit better offensively, but his numbers are getting helped by playing with the best player in the OHL(imo), Vincent Trocheck.

I didn't see "the next Milan Lucic" in him at the draft and I definitely don't see it him yet.

Are you saying he's improved an insane amount statistically or as a prospect?

I've seen him play a handful of times this year and he didn't look much different than last season.

I still don't think he has the hands, release, vision or first-step to be an overly offensive guy at the next level.

Exactly. If people are just checking his stats to see his progression than you are being mislead. He has improved slightly but much of his improvement in the production comes from his stellar linemates. I have watched him several times and I come away no more impressed than I was last year. He's actually not all that noticeable (only when he's running wild)

I feel like people are looking at the wrong things about Wilson. Yeah he's not very noticeable on offense, he might have one highlight reel goal if that. But if all you're looking for his shot accuracy and power he's going to come off as a dud. He does the little things that go unnoticed because they don't require much skill, but he's very good at it. Like I said it's his hockey knowledge, his positioning that allows him to score goals. He's in front of the net; screening goalies with his big body, getting deflections, getting rebounds, getting set-ups out front. These goals aren't beauties that will wow you, but goals are goals, and I don't know why Trocheck should get all the credit when he misses the net and Wilson is there to bail him out. I'm pretty sure no one expected this kid to develop into a sniper out of nowhere because there were no telling signs last year or now that this would be the case. (Come on, if he had that size and could score 30+ a year he would be a top 5 pick)I think this year's Tom Wilson is what the Capitals were hoping to see. I also feel like Wilson's skating has gotten a lot better, he can actually skate the puck in to the zone quite well. For people who haven't seen him play I think the plymouth whalers website has highlights from every game this season, just find a game where he's on the scoresheet and watch the game highlights. Like I said, it probably won't wow you or be pretty, but it's effective. As a wings fan the obvious comparison would be a more physical Tomas Holmstrom.

Thanks for the info

Caps have Forsberg, Kuznetsov and to a lesser extent Galiev as highly offensive wingers, to go along with Ovechkin and Johansson. They have nobody like Wilson when it comes to either prospects or the roster. I'm happy with the pick.

Usually you go with BPA but yeah I guess your right.

how has he been playing?.. havent really followed him much throughout the year. Thought he was an interesting prospect leading into his draft year and it didn't surprise me when he went pretty high in the first. What does everyone figure his potential is? AHL for a few years while getting called up a few times? or NHL at a pretty young age and not spend too much time in the AHL?... These types of power forwards are so tough to predict how theyll do... what does everyone think?

My best guess is at least one full year in the AHL and maybe another depending on how it goes. He's still pretty raw offensively but the development and progression this year was very enouraging.

I always liked Wilson, but having said that, I am very pleased that Scott Laughton fell into the Flyer's laps. With the new alignment, I have a feeling these two will butt heads for years to come and it will be interesting to see who will have the better pro career.Tom is a big boy and I know they fought a few years back so they do have somewhat of a history.
