Say what you want that slapper is one in a million.. Hard as Salo's cannon but 100 times more accurate.. and can shoot it from full skate and with first touch too. Hard to see him not having success with that shot.

"Can he do it in NHL with that shot"

If that shot is not enough for NHL scoring, nothing is. But he still can also pass and make plays.

I wasn't all that impressed before last year,he had a hard shot but it took him a long time to get it off and it was inaccurate

but he improved so much last year

Going into this season, I was so sure Jarnkrok was going to tear it up and Pulkkinen was going to flop. Shows what I know. Pulkkinen was the best player on the Griffins and Jarnkrok disappointed.

Jarnkrok had a slow start in the AHL but he turned it around

he was starting to put up a lot of points on the Griffins before he got traded

Yup cant wait to see that slapper more when he's wearing a Red Wings Uniform.

That Jiri Fischer -talk is always so funny.

Pulkkinen is an exciting player, but I laughed out loud when Fischer said that the guy could challenge for a spot in training camp. If one thing is for sure in this organization, it's that barring such exceedingly rare cases as Mantha, no amount of merit will win a second-year Red Wings prospect a roster spot over more senior players. Pulkkinen could score as many goals as the rest of the team combined in preseason, and Holland would still find a reason to return him to the AHL. The concept of assigning roster spots by merit is utterly lost upon this organization.

Pulkkinen is one of those players who i enjoy watching and have followed his career. Product of my home town team Jokerit i remember when me and my friends were excited about his numbers in the juniors and thought this guy would be the next Selanne.

Obviously, i've learned a lot about him since then. He's been a kinda cocky personality (not in interviews though) with guys his age but has always been humble towards players older than him. I think at this point he has matured a lot and the last season is a product of that. I still think he's few years away from NHL though. It wont go well for him if he tries too much. There's that huge will to show everybody what he can do but before he can be succesfull he has to be completely ready to play against NHL players. If he can do more out there than just shoot the puck then we know its time.

Dude has a freaking cannon of a shot and its pretty unique as well. Something i as a Finn find very very exciting (since we dont have many good goal scorers). He's also shown flashes of physical style.

If he ever makes it as a top 6 player in NHL he could be a very likeable and unique player. That holy slapper, good passing game, throw hits here and there and play a decent 2-way game.

I'll continue to follow his path very closely. I dont think he quite has the physical tools or quickness to be a consistent 30 goal scorer but consistent 25 goals and same amount of assists is very possible. At his peak he could score a few 30-35 goal seasons.

First off it was assistant general manager Ryan Martin that made that statement. Second, he clearly said training camp next year.

8pts in 7gp. When do you think he becomes a regular with the main team?

That's hard to say, but the Wings don't have a lot of RH forwards in the NHL atm. So I think Pulks could definitely find a spot to hold his own now...

He'll probably get a few games this year like last year....but like most Red Wing prospects, he likely won't be a regular on the main team until his waiver exempt status expires....which would be next year.

Haven't watched Pulkkinen much after he left Finland but man, watching that highlight reel was entertaining. I really hope Detroits way of developing him will pay off eventually and, Finland would definitely appreciate a weapon like that especially on the PP. Any word on how his vision/playmaking is looking in the AHL level? At least in Finland he made a name for himself as a playmaker as well and underused his shot some.

It's too bad he's not 4 inches taller and weighed another 20 pounds. He's be a superstar in the NHL. I feel like his size is going to hold him back, unfortunately. From what I've seen of him at the NHL level he seems like a guy who'll need a lot of minutes to produce offense and I don't think he'll be able to command that, at least right now. His holy slapper might not work in the NHL if he's not getting it off quick enough. His big windups are easy to defend against, I feel, as NHL defenders are faster and have longer reaches.

He's an intriguing prospect. I'm glad he's showing interest in playing in North America when he could be back home as a star in Finland. The skill is certainly there, I just don't know if he's "built" for the NHL.

Combination of small size and skating, being average at best, is fatal - in a bad sense. It's a disadvantage you can't compensate with a slapshot only. He's not going to provide anything defensively either.

Really surprised if he doesn't fall in the big hole where myriad of other players have fallen before him with similar weaknesses.

That video of his goals opened my eyes. Pulkkinen really doesnt have anything else going for him except the shot. But damn its a wicked shot! Very interesting to see if he can make a career out of it in the NHL.

I could see him being a third line, PP specialist. I could also see him being packaged in a trade.

Pulkkinen is perfectly fine defensively for his age.

Last 2 game 2+3 and whole season 12gp and 6+7. I hope he gets some games up in the NHL this year and start as a regular next year.
