And missed another. 2 offensive zone penalties and -1 today, it looked like he was trying too hard to make things happen by himself. Not his best game. His skating looked good in the first period when he was forechecking hard though.

Patrik didn't play that well, but his talent is so apparent. I can't believe that people say his skating is bad. He leaves other players in the dust. Maybe those players aren't the greatest skaters either, but I certainly think he's a good skater in Liiga.

I'm impressed he has such good puck handling and shooting with that long-ass twig. Great reach obviously which helps defensively..

I think he might be one of the best swedes of all time at the end of the day. Especially if he gets the elbows up and gets a little greasy when he gets to NA.

How do Leafs fans right now compare him with Nylander/Marner?
Probably better than both but in the same tier of prospect, wouldn't say he is a clear tier above them like Matthews and Eichel. I'd probably take Laine over Marner (who i value a bit more than Willy), but wouldn't take Puljujärvi over him. I see Laine as pretty close to a sure thing in regards to being at least a consistent 25 goal guy, with the potential to be much more.

Is he a Swede?

I guess its hard to remember which country he is from because he hasn't made his mark on a major international tournament representing Finland recently...

????? He's Finnish

Why be only the best Finn ever when you can also be the best Swede ever. Although Puljujärvi has the better qualifications for that.

????? He's Finnish

Weird post. If he's one of the best Swedes ever, he has to beat out the likes of Lidstrom, Forsberg and Sundin. If he's one of the best Finns, you've got Selanne, Kurri and the incomparable Aki Berg. Even Hagman is a huge stretch

Never thought I'd see Aki Berg and Hagman in the same sentence as Selanne and Kurri

This thread is great. So far I've read:

He's better than Selanne

He's better than Ovechkin

He's better than Mcdavid

And my personal favourite... He's a better goal scorer than Mario Lemieux.

Threads don't get any better than this  but I should note that I'm a big fan of his.

All three are in the relative same tier.

I'd say a step above Marner, very close to Nylander, maybe slight edge to Will.

Nylander is probably ahead at the moment, but his draft year is noticeably better than Nylander's. I mean, he's putting up basically the same PPG in Liiga as Nylander put up in Allsvenskan AKA the Swedish 2nd tier league. It's much harder to compare him with Marner, though. But it's safe to say that on the ice he's above them by at least a head's height :sarcasm:

Right now if all 3 suddenly jumped into the NHL tomorrow I would rate them as:
Nylander
Laine
Marner

Willy is just much further along in his development than the others, and although Marner is very skilled he needs to gain weight. Both are 5'11 though so it's not like they are short. Laine is just a beast

Long-term though Laine definitely has the highest upside IMO.

Why couldn't he be better than the first three?

To clarify, I'm not saying he will be, but if Laine is as good as some people think he could be, its not a stretch to think he could at least be at the same level. Stats are different now than years past so he probably won't get to the level of those players in stats, but in level of play compared to his peers he might.
