I love it, kid's got personality. Don't know about doing that stuff in the NHL though
It is so often ripped out of context. If say he was taunted first from the other bench, then it is a whole different story. Of course he should grow up at some point.

It's true that there can always be something that wasn't shown. All you see is the taunting but nothing about what may have transpired during the game to lead to that

Damn, already 2nd all-time in goals as a 16yr old in the MHL with 20 (30 games). Kucherov has the record with 29 (53 games) in 09-10. And he just turned 16 two weeks ago. Impressive stuff.

At what point can/will he make the jump to the KHL? Once he turns 17?

Yes next season, Danila Yurov was 16 when he debuted in the KHL this season and turned 17 in December. It's the same with Michkov, so it is the season you are turning 17.

Really hard to tell. There hasn’t been a Russian prospect this good in the system since before the KHL. Add in the SKA isn’t known for loving to play young players and it gets more blurry. His shiny new contract might make them more inclined to play him, and I don’t doubt he could hold his own in the league right now, but I’m not sure he gets any quality time in until his draft season.

Why not just let him keep developing in the MHL?

He’s still pretty tiny and needs to improve his skating a bit (which will come in time as he gets stronger and grows into a man).

But man does he have some elite skills to his game, he’s a phenomenal talent.

A player can play in the KHL at the age of 17. Here is a general rule how the league counts the age, "The Hockey Player’s age is determined based on the year of birth as of the season start and is valid during the entire season." So, he can play as early as next season.

He can also play in the VHL don't forget that there's that option. He may very well see time in all three leagues next season

Elite talent. I don't think his contract is either good or bad (from a North American perspective) - too early to tell. Maybe it's the right choice, as he'll have more time to grow into his body before coming over for the NHL (if he ever does, he could also pull a Mozyakin). You can't fault a kid from wanting to stay home a bit longer.

He won't pull Mozyakin, because KHL doesn't pay the money nowadays it used to pay. Mozyakin used to earn more money, than your average NHLer, that's why he didn't care about the NHL. Now it's different, so even from financial standpoint it'll be much more profitable for Michkov to play in the NHL. And I bet, he wants to be where all the best play.

While Mozyakin at some point might have been earning a bit more than the average NHLer he was a superstar in the league with years to prove it.

Sure, that's why he signed a new deal with SKA recently till the end of 2025/2026 season. He wants to play for a club that is able to offer him and his family some financial stability now. That made the NHL option impractical and he signed with SKA.

He's 16. Let the kid become a fully grown adult and make NHL plans when that happens.

He's taking of his family now during a pandemic. Not sure what exactly happened to you to have made you such a cheerleader for the NHL.

Lol, I've always been saying KHL means Kolkhoz League. It's great to develop players, but nowhere close to the NHL, and WHCs and Olympics have proved it countless times. So our players must play in the NHL to ever get a chance to beat Canadians. It's the only thing I care about, I'm not a big fan of the NHL as well. It's just the best league in the world, nothing more, nothing less.

That's nice defeatism. You should surrender your balls to the NHL.

Nah, I've not been drinking alcohol for more than 20 years now. I'm a fan of Team Russia, not some stupid clubs, KHL or NHL or whatever-HL.
So sorry then (drinking note).

Using your logic, Russia had many NHLers in the 1990s. I do not even care to count them, simply many, all of them. Now, I am checking the EP stats, Russia won just one gold medal at IIHF Worlds in this decade, three times did not make the play-off. Guessing you do not want this to repeat. By your logic, Russia should have much better results at the IIHF stage due to many NHLers.

Conclusion? You should support the league in your country. We need a strong league or leagues in Europe. Otherwise, the game of hockey will die out here. Hoping you do not support that development.

If you are a fan of Team Russia then what you want is to see the brightest kids develop in a responsible way which means that there is a proper development pathway for them. This means heads not being turned in this mirage that going to North America means future success. It means developing players to the best of their ability in an environment that suits them emotionally and technically. There have to be several improvements in youth selection, development (in respect of several positions), greater reach of the sport throughout Russia. Not to mention if needs be importing overseas coaches to bring in new ideas which have seen a success as with the fencing team and netminders with Finnish help. Learn from that and build on it and self innovate as Tarasov did.

Currently player wastage is pretty bad. Not what is good for Team Russia or the individuals themselves. A few manage to pick themselves up. Most go by the wayside.
