Russia produces a LOT of elite players, historically.

An unreal percentage of those are wingers.

They have nearly always lacked at defence and goalie in best on bests, and often at center, too.
2010 centers depth was great though

Prime Malkin
Datsyuk
Past prime but still serviceable Fedorov
KHL superstar Zinoviev

That roster was pretty insane on paper, but just couldn’t handle Canada’s pressure

Goalie should be a non issue moving forward

Bob , Shetsy , Sorokin , Vasi , Kochetkov ( if he shakes concussions) , Varlamov , Sammy is silly silly depth there . Gotta be the best slate of tenders of any nation no ? Plus Askarov in future .
yep, for sure. they have goalies currently.

First time ive seen it. Goalie and D has historically always been really weak, since Russia became Russia and not USSR. There have been three epic Russian centers, and a boatload of epic wingers

never was a fan of carlson/fantili duo to begin with. michkov has his share of shorcomings, they didn't disappear miraculously because he is a ppg player after 27 games.

After 27 games? how many have been PPG as 19 years old as rookies? from 2005 and over.?

im so excited to get to see real talented players on the ice, Michkov this year and maybe Demidov next... I dont care if Michkov is a flyers, he's fun to watch and hes already dictating the pace on the ice.

those are the three great centers. Nice that they overlapped, but Fedorov wasnt much by then.

I often think Russia has more firepower than Canada on the wing, but, even right there, at their peak, with their three greatest centers overlapping, Fedorov isnt as good as centers on Canada who either didnt make it or were shifted to the wing.

To me, its glaring.

Historically @

wing 10/10

center 7/10

D 3/10

G 3 or 4/10

and goalies never look very good without a good defence in from of them.

Bobrovsky would likely look much worse with Russia than Florida. Similar for Shesterkin.

Russia’s defense is more than serviceable these days. There are 5-6 guys that are playing first pair in the NHL

Lack of center is only a recent problem.

D is still a problem. Serg and Provorov were supposed to anchor the future but both have had big up and downs. Silyev could be good but he’s likely a couple seasons away

Via Moneypuck, in just over 100 5v5 minutes Michkov-Frost-Tippett are 9 GF - 2 GA (or 82% GF%) and 60% xGF%. I think his 5v5 play early on wasn't great but some stability with this trio and a sliver of skill on his line has turned his 5v5 play into an asset - it just took a little time which always made sense from a chess-master-like talent adjusting to new league/continent as a teenager.

They are producing 3.05 xGF/60, which is the equivalent of the best 5v5 teams in the league and are obviously outscoring that greatly due to a little luck (probably) and having a dual threat like MM39 being better than average at shot selection, shooting, and passing. It probably helps not to have the toughest match-ups (ie. away from Couturier) but he continues to level up so give it 25 more games..

Michkov dropping to 7 at the draft still puzzles me. Rarely have i been so sure that a prospect will succeed. It was always 1a/1b between Michkov and Bedard. Stupid GMs but awesome for the Flyers.
On a side note: looks like Tortorella knows what he is doing. I think it's pretty smart what Philly is doing, no reason playing him 20+ minutes when he never played 50 games in his career. It's a long season especially for rookies. They are not repeating last year's mistake when they overplayed Couturier after missing 2 seasons.
Everybody who followed this kid since he was 16 was dumbfounded

This guy isn't Michkov's agent, he's just a pundit who talks about hockey on the radio. Seems like some tried to translate a French article and misunderstood that somehow Ettedgui was an agent?

It's so strange to me that Michkov fans and Celebrini fans feel the need to attack each other's preferred player. Both are fantastic rookies. There's no reason we can't appreciate what both are doing without trying to bring the other one down.

There's a lot of tribalism over prospects in the recent couple years. I'm guilty of it as well and needed to step back and just enjoy the players. We're in the best era the game has ever seen.

People are assholes, they thrive on conflicts and are addicted to validation of their miserable lives from internet strangers. I prefer just watching and admiring both players do great things. I don't care who wins calder, it's not even that important. It'll be great to see if both lift the cup in the next two decades for their teams.

He looks better (much better one could say) 5v5 now. He's adjusting, and very well too.

I think his scoring pace will go down as the season progresses, games get more intense and he fatigues. Other teams will start focusing more on him too.

In any case he already has shown what he is all about. As soon as the flyers get more offense to surround him he will be a scoring machine. 100pt+ potential for sure.

Wonder what will be his ceiling
