RW/LW Klim Kostin (2017, 31st, STL, traded to EDM)

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
Unreal to pick him up at 31.

He's a great talent but I'm guessing most teams steered clear because of the "Russian factor." Shouldn't be an issue in STL as they have a Russian superstar and arguably the best RW in the game to learn from

Russian factor and very limited viewings. He looked amazing at Hlinka, and terrible in the WJAC-19 and not great in the super-series.

Russian factor? This dude was injured most of the year. Other than some good points in 2015-2016, what has he shown that warrents him being a a 1st round pick? 18 games in Russia, 2 points... Was pretty good in international tournaments though...

Please tell me why I should be hyped about him.

His physical tools. He's got a huge frame, skates well, and is not even close to being filled out. With the skill and instincts he's shown in his short stints in the past with his frame, and potential for growth, have to think that is why.

Competes hard, physical, good skill, good size. Didn't have much to go off of this year. In this draft, it's not bad to gamble on all that unknown upside, especially at #31.

Despite playing only 5 games in his draft year he was still considered the no1 ranked European skater. He was also taken 1st ova in the CHL Import Draft so apparently he's really highly regarded by scouting services and you'd have to think if he doesn't miss the vast majority of his draft year he almost certainly goes higher. I think the reason he's generating some extra excitement is that players of his caliber normally aren't available at 31st ova.

He's in the Blues prospect camp right now participating in drills but I'm not sure about scrimmages. He says his shoulder is 100% and has stated he's trying to make the Blues out of camp. I think that's a bit optimistic considering his age and that he basically was injured all of last year. He'll almost certainly play AHL hockey this year so between being in NA in a new league and coming back from the injury I'd say he already has his hands full.

He was listed at 6'3, 196 but weighed in at 207 lbs at the combine. That could be yet another adjustment for him if it affects his speed.

Very jealous of the Thomas, Kostin, and Toropchenko picks. Amazing draft by Blues getting all their needs (C, RW) easily a top 3 draft. I was high on Kostin and wanted him to the Rangers at 21 but I'm stil happy with Chytil. I remember seeing him at 4-5 in the beginning of the year iirc

Yeah, he's almost assuredly AHL bound. Which team he'll play on though is hard to say since the Blues are the only team without a primary AHL affiliate this season. If I had to guess, I'd say he ends up in San Antonio.

I'm down with a Greer - Jost* - Kostin line for the Rampage :yo:

*insert Grimaldi or Beaudin if Jost is up with the Avs from the get go

good lord that isn't usually a 18 year old physique... ripped wise it is yes, but Kostin is friggin THICK too. Most kids around that age are ripped but pretty thin

the kid is massive and already has powerful tree trunk legs that you normally start getting in your 20's when training hard

Yeah, no doubt. And from what I hear/read, this kid is extremely motivated. Very high work ethic. He was my favorite player in the entire draft and I can't believe the Blues got him at 31. I wanted him with their #20 pick.
