Kakko to Rangers. Make it happen. I don't care about the 1st pick anymore.

So excited.
Devils will 100% take Hughes, so the question is. Will Rangers be smart and select Kakko or will they try to act supersmart and not select Kakko?

New jerseys coach said some really heavy words about hughes before the draft lottery, I think they will pick him. Id be supriced if they pick kakko. He talked about the #1 pick like Kakko didnt even exist, that The team that win the #1 have a player like hughes bla bla bla

Welcome to the New York Rangers!

I preferred pick 2 to pick 1 because Hughes will go 1 and I prefer Kakko to Hughes. It’s a wide open draft, in my opinion. Kakko has one of the better chances in this draft of being the best player from this draft. If he can play the center of the ice, it would be a big help. We need a 1C. I can’t complain about us picking second. Kakko has a good chance to be our best player within a few seasons. We need all the high end talent we can get.
Oh now you like him;)

Kakko would deserve #1 pick but that will go to Hughes because, well, HYPE.

Kakko is all that! Amazing to see him humiliate grown up pro players! Hughes plays against kids, we'll see how he does up. :)

Despite him sometimes getting into arguments with Finns, I think he has always liked the player. Definately more than your average American poster here.

Kakko to Rangers doesn't sound too bad even though I would have preferred some other teams even moe, mostly because the Rangers are hard in the rebuild mode and they don't really have much history with Finns. But they are surely a classic team and it will be interesting to see how quickly he becomes a fan favorite in New York City.

It will also be interesting to see what kind of linemates Kakko gets. I guess Zibanejad is solid #1 center but besides him there aren't many real star players in the team. I'm not asking Kakko to be handed everything on a silver platter in his rookie year but if Kakko won't see much ice time with the best players next year, I don't expect him to be one of the Calder favorites.

From the last 5 drafts, which team that drafted in the top-2 has had less secondary scoring than the current Rangers, especially now that they traded away their 2nd line center? It's so clear that Rangers doesn't have as much star players in their teams than your average team would have. So am I wrong to say I don't wish Rangers' most talented player to be playing with players clearly inferior to him? Laine got everything handed to him on a silver platter and even Matthews got to play mostly with Nylander in his draft year and people still said he was so underutilized back then. And there are many other examples of young players immediately getting to play with their team's best players.

I know you are joking, but I’ve had him above Hughes for over a month. My main concern about his game is skating acceleration. If Kakko is going to be an elite NHL winger, you’d like him to be able to gain the zone with speed easier and beat defenders to the outside with speed easier. It doesn’t mean all the best forwards have great acceleration, but more of them do than don’t.

If he plays the center of the ice, I think it’s less of a concern because he’s going to take up more positions centrally. I think he already plays between the dots more than most wingers and it’s why he’ll be good wherever he plays, but he’ll be forced centrally even more as a center. I think he’s going to bulk up and become good defensively. He might never be Barkov or Kotkaniemi defensively, but with his size, strength and ability to win puck battles and protect the puck, I think he’s going to be able to match up against the best centers in league.

Umm.. please no.

Good thing about this that Kakko will go for sure somewhere where there usually hasn't been a lot of Finns.

Devils did draft Ari Ahonen first round back in 1999, played 0 NHL games in the end.

Second round they drafted Teemu Laine in 2000 (0 NHL games) and Tuomas Pihlman in 2001 (15 NHL games).

We might sign Panarin in the offseason. Before Quennville signed with Florida, we were considered the overwhelming favorites to sign him.

Being able to play with Panarin and Chytil/Kravtsov wouldn’t be bad. At least one elite NHL’er and two highly talented prospects with real first line upside or better.

And if we trade Kreider, they might choose to use him on a line with Zibanejad and Buchnevich. If he’s better than those two immediately, he’s going to be one of the best players in the league eventually. Those two are no slouch. Kakko will eventually surpass them, but I don’t think it’ll be right away.

They aren’t going to put him with the grinders. He’ll play top six right away and I think there’s a good chance he’ll play first PP. We have a vacant spot in the left circle for a playmaker with Zuccarello’s departure. We might not have elite players around him, but our PP could be very good. Kreider is one of the best net front guys in the league and there aren’t that many who score better from the Ovechkin/Laine spot than Zibanejad. Buchnevich and DeAngelo are also very capable first unit players.

Another thing that I think Finns will like is that Quinn doesn’t hesitate to play his best players big minutes. He doesn’t freeze out the fourth line as much as some coaches do, but there are often big gaps between the top 2-4 forwards in TOI and the rest of the forwards. Quinn requires that all our forwards play a very in your face, physical style of hockey. He also tends to scratch every player on the team at some point. He did it to every young player on the team last season and some veterans. I don’t like it, but he doesn’t look at “scratches” the same way as most fans. He looks at it as if he’s giving players a game off to rest and improve on areas they might be struggling.

These are some of the things to watch for, assuming Hughes is picked first.
