New poll series coming from me in June
I think both their play at the WHC may go a long ways go towards who goes #1 in the 2019 draft.
But how many of those guys would have had an opportunity to represent their men's national team? Hughes for sure, but any other?
Yes, because none of them are good enough to play for the men’s team.
End. Of. Story.
He didn't want to. It's his choice. Why can’t he play in both?
For sure, just didn't notice him on the list!Hughes might play both tournaments.
I was only referring to risk/reward ratio. Obviously that's not the reason why he isn't going to WJC. I'm just trying to say that he has already played 2 great WJC tournaments, after those he has been dominant in Liiga.Thats terrible reasoning. What if he gets injured walking down the street? He's not made it yet, and has no draft positioning to protect. He's not even played a game in the NHL. I think this is a bad mindset for a player to
“It’s really too bad they’re not going head to head at U-18,” another NHL team head scout said. “That would have been a great measuring stick, a level playing field.”
They have already played against each other at the U18s and U20s, and they will possibly meet at the WHC. Should be enough measuring sticks, although I would have enjoyed seeing Kakko at the U18s again.
Because he's not a shoo in for the men's team. He needs to fight for the roster spot and the best way to do that is to train and play with the men's team. Why can’t he play in both?

He would miss opportunities to play against men. Finland is playing against Denmark and after that EHT tournament. Kakko probably wants win EHT with men.Why can’t he play in both?
The chances of Kakko going 3rd are way smaller than the chancese of him going 1stFirst I was disappointed but after thinking about it, it makes PERFECT sense for Kakko to focus on the WHC and not going to the juniors. Who the hell cares if he´s drafted 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th or we. (1st is still open ofc but much lower chance). Kakko wants to develop as fast as possible so this is the perfect next step for him. I think he will make it to the WHC and i ´m sure he will be a treat to watch over there!
Of course they are but who cares? It does not matter in the end. I just hope he ends up in a decent team. Would love for Colorado to get him. He would have Rantanen there to ease in his transition to NHL. There is waaaaay too much bickering about draft positions over here. Let´s just focus more on the actual players and their potentialsThe chances of Kakko going 3rd are way smaller than the chancese of him going 1st
Naww man, nobody's talked about that at all.I know I should read the thread cause you probably talked about that before but I don't think Kakko is really worse than Hughes.
Other than ability to play center what does Kakko lack ?
Kakko just seem like a beast to me.
Naww man, nobody's talked about that at all.
Like who exactly? I doubt anyone here actually believes such things.
Yes it does. But that's not something that's unique to Finnish posters.Yeah didn't bother to check that it was actually him who made those claims, my bad. Doesn't change the fact that sometimes hype gets a bit out of hand by Finnish posters discussing Finnish players.
Yeah, playing against NHL and Euro stars will really show their skill against great competition. I think after the tournament a lot of scouts will have Kakko over Hughes. Just don’t think Hughes can hang against physical fast players.I think both their play at the WHC may go a long ways go towards who goes #1 in the 2019 draft.
