Elias Petersson is also a playoff choker, my opinion only of course. It’s just too bad his team won’t make the playoffs for the next 5 years to prove my opinion to be true
Your opinion is showing really a great lack of hockey knowledge, as Pettersson was the MVP in the SHL (Swedish top professional men’s league) playoffs last season, and was the major factor for his team winning the championship. On the other hand Matthews has the last time won a championship and had a clearly great playoffs performance in U18 WJC, so honestly for him it really seems pretty much the truth that he chokes in the playoffs...

He might play a similar style of game but he is nit Austin Matthews. Period. Go through the criteria;
Speed
Shooting
IQ
Defensive play
Play making
Leadership
Matthews is better than Kakko at every category now and was so at the same age.. so again, no he isn’t Austin Matthews and it isn’t even close
buddy you need to relax. He meant STYLE wise...which i agree with.
NOT effectivness...

Read his previous posts... he literally said Kakko is just like Matthews as a complete player.. I understand a comp but again, that’s not what he said.

"Reminds me a lot of Matthews."

If you mean that post then disagree. Nowhere does it say as good.

Don’t get me wrong, my Kings have Kupari and I’d be more than happy with Kakko. I think both those kids are 65-75pt players in the NHL but again Matthews is near a generational type talent!
What the, are you actually suggesting Kupari is at Kakko's level as a prospect?

This thread has become...not good. Prospect comparisons are always stylistic when being compared to another player. Otherwise they say “franchise” or “ top pairing d man”..

Not the best gamefor Kaapo but still managed to get two assists.
Just shows how good he is. He only played against some of the top prospects of Canada while being younger than most of them. Had a quiet 2 points, no biggie

Nope, Kakko is a much better prospect than Kupari. With the Kings style of play Kakko is a 65-70 pt guy while Kupari is in the 50ish range.

You base your teams style of play around players like Kakko, not the other way around. Especially when you take into account the way the game is changing in the current and future in reference to the King's "style".

Between that, and saying his IQ not on par with Matthews but "even below Eichel" when there is no consensus that Eichel or Matthews is > the other really shows how off base you are evaluating players.

so its now kakko vs matthews? omfg hfboards..

as a player he is very interesting he probably drafts high and like kotkaniemi has "proven" can maybe be a promising part of a NHL team very soon. but in this internet world everything is in absolutes not in the real shades of life.

but all in all really excited to see all these promising kids coming to the game no matter nationality (MacDavid, Matthews, Marner, Laine, Aho, Petterson, Eichel, Dahlin, Heiskanen etc.)

From the few clips Ive seen of Kakko, he looks like a young Peter Forsberg, i e my fav player of all time. Hence, I kinda like Kakko
He is very Peter Forsberg-like. The Auston Matthews comparison is logical, as Matthews was also compared by some to Forsberg.

Matthews and Kakko are both Forsberg-like, and are similar to one another by proxy.

Craig’s List: Can’t go wrong with Puljujarvi, Laine
By Craig Button

...

Matthews, currently playing for the ZSC Lions of the Swiss National League, is hard to shut down because he can beat you in so many ways with his skill and intelligence. Combined with an indomitable will, I see a player who has a Peter Forsberg-like approach to playing the game.

...

This is a short shift highlight video showcasing some of Forsberg's trademark style.

Ted Brown of Last Word on Puck posted these NHLe numbers today:

Elias' adjusted points-per-game numbers from his draft season crush those of Hischier and Patrick.

While I don't know if Kaapo will be better than Elias, the fact that he's currently above Pettersson on this list is a decent indicator of the level of talent he is. He's a really good player, yet TSN didn't mention him at all during Sunday night's game against Canada when he led all players in points.

TSN is going to realize during the tournament that he is special.

He has center potential too.

Dobber Prospects has released its PNHLe metrics for the players in the World Juniors. PNHLe is a predictor of one's scoring potential in the NHL.

Kaapo Kakko leads Team Finland with PNHLe number of 67.

Jack Hughes has a rating of 56 based on this season.

World Junior PNHLe Breakdown – Group B

The data is based on the 2018-19 season so far, corroborating the observation that Hughes' first half has not been very good.

I've heard that the NTDP schedule has become significantly more challenging this season compared to the past. They are playing against the top college teams more often now. If true it explains why Hughes' numbers aren't much better than last year.
