He's looked a little tired the past two games. The Canada game was his weakest in the tournament. Kupari-Heponiemi-Talvitie played much better and deserved their icetime.

The worst game yet? Agreed (and he wasn't even bad). Tired? No. He plays far more minutes in the league without looking exhaust so it would make no sense for him to suddenly be tired after/during 13-15 min/games. I'm not sure if Lundell is quite ready for this level yet but even if he wasn't, I won't doubt them being able to provide better results with half decent ice time. I have no idea what gave you impression that first line was better? They where overwhelmed at their own zone plenty of times and it wasn't before Tolvanen joined up as extra forward until they got anything done (the first time in the entire tournament). The first line has been our worst line up until now. The second line was providing results with frigging Nyman in it. I hope Talvitie can boost up Hepo- Kupari moving forward.

That equalizer was pure luck, but hey, everything counts.

Gotta remember that Kakko usually plays 2 or max 3 times in a week in Liiga whereas in WJC he had played 5 games in 7-8 days. And considering his active playstyle it wouldn't surprise me if he feels a bit gassed out, especially after playing back to back against NA teams who play very physical game.

But I agree to some extent but Kakko has not been properly utilized in this tournament, mostly due to Heponiemi being older and more experienced which makes him the main playmaker in this team instead of Kakko.

I'm hoping it's just minor exhaustion and that he hasn't caught anything from the Swedes.

Good play today from Kakko. He generated quite a bit, had a few shots on net, and set up a few point-blank opportunities, including the Lundell breakaway in the final minutes of the game.

To be honest, I think when he plays wing he plays too high in his own defensive zone, as he concentrates on defending the point. This results in him having to wait for the center or defense to distribute the puck up to him. Lundell and Laaksonen have struggled to make proper outlet passes.

On the powerplay, I've noticed that he likes to control the breakout, circling behind the net and either bringing the puck up or coordinating the breakout with the defenseman.

If he played center, I think he would benefit from the ability to better control the breakout.

Easily more impressive than Hughes so far. Tomorrow he can settle the debate for #1 overall with a big Championship performance.

He's been impressive for sure, still there are some flaws in his game. He's a bit too hesitant to shoot, can be a bit puck-hoggy at times and his short stick is a drawback when playing without the puck. I've noticed a couple of times when he was just centimetres away from stealing or deflecting a puck where a longer stick had been handy. Still the advantage of being able to stickhandle in traffic is what makes him a special player, so what do I know.

That's not going to settle the debate for #1. It'll be an exciting game from a scouting perspective though, for sure.

Well that settles it. Stanley cup winner Tom Wilson > McDavid
There are players that come up big in big situations and there are players that underperform when the stakes are high. We'll see tomorrow if Hughes is just a little boy who poops his pants (like he looks like) or if he can do something tomorrow.

Finland fans are worse than Leaf fans, by far.

No, Kaakko isnt better than Hughes. Just like Laine was never better than Matthews.

Frankly, how adamant you and some other americans then are in your opinions? Is there anything, I mean anything, that Kakko could do that would make you consider changing your mind?

It isn't a clear consensus anymore that Hughes > Kakko so you are being just as obnoxious as the Finnish fans claiming the opposite.

I have no issues with Kakko going 2nd but no reason to put Hughes next to Matthews.

Matthews was 6'3 C dominating mens league in his draft season. Hughes is the opposite for that.

US people are one of a kind anyway, everyone knows that. US is US and its the only thing that matthers, so one could just figure who you think should be #1 no matther how things really are, but hes been in the discussion for so long no one cares to look deep about it anymore.. US IS US

I'd say some of you Americans are easily the worst ones around here, but at least there's not many of you in here.

I think Swedes are the least obnoxious around here but some of them have beef with finns :D

I think Kakko has been more impressive in this tournament though.
