Yes. It's very rare that there are two players that are this talented, this young, are made for each other AND are playing in the same team. Of course there are some other great players, too, but it's hard to imagine who could be a better match for McDavid for the following years, and I believe that'll be one of the things that'll keep McDavid happy in Edmonton. And Jesse, too.

Me too. Jesse's skill combination, especially his speed and ability to force turnovers match really well with McDavid.

You can see them make lots of subtle passing plays and reads off each other.

I'll post this here, too. Edmonton Journal about Jesse's game tonight:

Jesse Puljujarvi was a beast this game, at least in the 9:59 he got to play. His speed, size and skill took over at times and he scored a crucial goal, streaking to the net and battling his way to a rebound marker. It’s a travesty that he’s not on the top power play given that he’s playing so hard and well and the Oil’s top power play unit is largely ineffective, at least when it sets up in the o-zone. What more does he have to do to earn that spot? How bad does the top unit have to be?

Those 2 together are a nightmare for opposing defences trying to break the puck out. They both close on you so fast and Jesse's long reach combined with his speed seems to surprise a lot of Dmen. One little mistake and you're turning the puck over to those two. Both are really good at stripping pucks and getting their sticks in passing lanes. I think thats why Lucic is looking like a great complement on that line. Their speed is forcing defenders to panic and is allowing Lucic to throw some heavy hits. There's been a few over the last stretch where defenders are panicking on the JP+CM forecheck and they don't even see Lucic and get flattened.

Everytime McDavid& JP start skating I expect something to happen, maybe as soon as next year or the end of this season teams will have no answer to their rushes.

Hell even Looch is looking faster on that line, he's motoring to get up into the play.

Watching him 5on5 right now is much more fun than Laine(not a post saying JP is better). He's all over the ice and has that go gear.
Creates a ton of chances and game by game makes strong defensive plays.

One of the examples is from today on the 1st period when he's behind Minnesotas net but skates back to break up a play on their blueline. I would say with Drai as C JP is the best defensive winger on that roster.

But it's so damm frustating to watch these games, he's playing well, like the best winger for the Oilers and I have to keep watching Strome, Letestu, Maroon, Benning over him on the pp time after time. Like why, JP could address their biggest need but no, can't do that.
It's not like Edmonton is at the top of standings and having a killer pp.
I have always enjoyed watching Pulju more than Laine just because Pulju plays such an active game. Especially during the 2016 WJC he was all around the ice wreaking havoc. He was the first guy on the rush and first guy backchecking, often helping Aho in the own zone. He does the same with McDavid now. Often Pulju is back in the defensive zone before McDavid and takes the center's duties until McDavid arrives. This conserves McDavid's energy which he needs to blow past the defense. I just love watching him play. Just wish we could see him on the PP banging in those onetimers with his 100mph slapper.

You really have to wonder what the kid has to do to get a shot on the pp.
We really haven't been able to see his 1 timer this year outside of the 1 one timer goal(which was a beautiful shot), and it's a damm shame.
It's 1 more weapon Edmonton is refusing to use. Played his best hockey of the season with 2 fast players.

He did the same in his final year in Boston when they run with
Lucic- Spooner- Pasta. He was also a great mentor for Pasta if we can trust Pasta's word.

Get the same pictures to blackmail the coaches that letestu is using im guessing.

It's nice to finally see him starting to look like an NHLer. I think what I've been most impressed and surprised by is his strength and how well he has done in physical battles recently. I think that's something that McLellan and Chiarelli has told him to work on, so it's good to see him working on his game and getting better.

Great to see him silence the critics. Still hard to believe there were actually posts earlier this year calling him a bust. And for all the ridicule I took for saying he was on the verge of a breakout year off a 3 goal preseason game. It is starting to look like this, Jesse is breaking out this season after all. Never a doubt for me. Too much size, talent, and skill to not to.

I was right there with you. I never doubted the end product on this kid, I just figured it might take him a bit longer to get there. As of now he's well above my expectations for him for this year after training camp. I already knew he was a good 2-way player and that he could one-time the puck and has a lethal wrister, but whats more encouraging is how well he's using his big body, frame, and reach advantage to score goals. He's starting to learn how to use body position on the ice to out muscle guys and he's only going to get more and more dominant as he gets older and stronger in that regard.

My expectations of him have not changed. I said his top end potential was that of a 35 goal 75-80 point guy, with him becoming at least a 30-30 2-way winger. I still think thats true, and expect him to be a 30 goal 50-60P player as early as next year once he starts getting utilized on the top PP. No idea if he'll hit his top end, but I feel comfortable saying he will be a 60P winger in this league at minimum.

+1 Jesse is one of those players that when he figures it out, he will be unstoppable. All he has to do is use his speed and size and drive the net. He's already good, but with his ceiling, it's scary when he puts it together. He and McDavid are natural fits to me.

Yup, they're going to be a treat to watch. You already see Puljujarvi carry the puck through the neutral zone and gain the O-zone with ease, and every so often he turns on the jets and just blows by a defender. As he gets more confident I think you'll see him take the puck wide with speed and protect it while driving the net a lot like Wheeler does. Just need him on that top PP unit on the left circle/point and I think his game will take off to a point that no one will be able to question his ability ever again.

Its clear he's worked on/adapted to a lot of his shortcomings last season. He's handling the puck better, he's skating with more confidence and explosiveness, he's much stronger on his skates and more willing to engage physically, and he's adapting to the NHL speed with his decision making. Even before he was paired with McDavid I said he's very close, and will likely break out next season. It seems that prediction is being accelerated by getting to play with McDavid, and is likely to accelerate even more if he ever finds himself on the PP spot that he played in the U18's (Left point/circle).

Biggest thing this season has been that one mistake doesn't mean sitting on bench rest of the game. He looked so nervous and scared last year when one mistake was a catastrophe to coach. Now he has some leach and he play with more confident because of that.

I was extremely excited about him being drafted to the Oilers but honestly he does NOTHING for me. By no means am i writing him off cause he is so young and has alot of potential, but IMO he needs to be in the AHL or something and develop. I dont like him playing on the Oilers right now.

Um. Now is the best time for him to play on the Oilers and learn the NHL game, because your team sucks ass and isn't going anywhere.

Or learn the north american game more and dominate in the AHL and get away from this team where he is struggling.. I prefer the patience method seeing that the Oilers are underperforming and dissapointing big time this season

He has shown that he can play in the NHL. No need to send him down. Bakersfield is not doing any better than the Oilers. There's no one there.

He hasn't looked good, but no one minus McDavid and Draisaitl have, so I'm really not going to fault him. He's still 19
Yeah he is young and it's too soon to judge him, but I don't really get this "no one else has looked either" argument that's used to defend bad performances (not only in Pulju's case). Arizona sucks even more than Oilers and Keller is still looking really good.
