That would still put him on the 4th line where he would be wasted.
Kapanen or Bracco will have to move to the left side. Though Babcock really likes breaking the kids in on the 4th line so when he first comes up it will probably be 4th line and 2nd PP unit. Same as what we did with Johnsson and Kap.

I'm personally hoping Kapanen is moved for a defenseman and that opens up a spot for Bracco with Kadri. Kadri looks lost out there with Kapanen. He's at his best when he's playing with a playmaker (Marner and Nylander have carried him to 30 goal seasons) and I think he'd look great with Bracco.

If Brown is moved the obvious thing to do is Kapanen to the LW. But if he isn't then Kapanen stays on the right (babcock has said this).

Brown can't play LW though. His playstyle is entirely right side of the ice with his open legged stance.

100%. No chance Bracco can move to LW. That kills 90% of his strengths.

Possibility of maybe Kadri getting traded in summer and Nylander moving to centre Bracco playing 3RW.
Nylander-Bracco would be the worst possible line combo IMO. Something like this is probably more suitable

Kapanen-Matthews-Bracco
Moore-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Nylander-Hyman

I actually like the looks of your line combos better yeah, good call.

Kapanen should never be on a line with Matthews, ever again. He doesn't pass the puck or do any dirty work in the corners. He skates into the corner and takes a bad angle shot, losing possession. He is Jason Blake light. Needs to be on the 3rd line where he can use his speed to burn lower d-pairings and easier matchups.

On-topic however, I like pairing Bracco with Matthews.

Then maybe he moves to LW either way I expect him on the team next season
personally I think Bracco will be hugely more effective on RW, his entry game is really dependent on putting the defenseman to a decision to give him space where he can circle back to create room, or to try to take away space where Bracco then either squirts by on the boards side with the puck and a now-out-of-position defender to make a pass to the front of the net or that hit-the-breaks toe drag move that has the defenseman slide right by and give Bracco a lane to the net. The possession-hog, pass first types usually like their stick on the boards side to defend it with their body a bit more

I didn't have very high hopes for Bracco after last year, but he's been a pleasant surprise. I'd be extremely surprised if he's not a full time nhl-er at this point next season now.

Nylander and kadri have hardly ever played together. Nylander in 16/17 (Kadri's first 30 goal season) played with komorov and brown. Then in 17/18 he played with Marleau, marner, komo and brown. Nylander and kadri dont have any chemistry tbh.

nylander split 16/17 w matthews and kadri

Great season from Bracco.

It will be an interesting summer/training camp depending on who's moved, or not. If he can clean up his 200' game he's easily got top 6 talent at the NHL level, the skating, IQ, passing etc. is all there, just needs to round out his game.

That being said, I don't think Babcock is the type to give him a chance. Not yet anyway.

Do Leafs fans see Bracco getting traded in the offseason? Surely if the Leafs are not going to even give him a chance in the NHL, he should be given the opportunity to see if he can break into the league somewhere else.

What would you trade for him? Petan has been better, and there hasn't been any trade market for him.

Did Bracco have an injury last season with the Marlies?

he took a leave of absence for an unspecified reason. Leafs should really move Bracco it’s clear they aren’t going to give him a crack at it and he may have been passed by Robertson already. And who knows maybe Bracco isn’t an NHL player and wouldn’t stick but you might as well let him try elsewhere. Throw him in a larger trade or something.

How would you know what the trade market has looked like for Petan? Him and Bracco have identical numbers in the AHL and Bracco is a couple years younger. Id be pissed if i was Bracco, hes been shafted. No reason he shouldnt have a cup of coffee by now

Petan cleared waivers. Any team could have had him for free, and not a single team did.

I doubt Bracco will bring back anything more than Petan has, which would be minimal value. I think he might need waivers next season anywhere, so if he can't crack the Leafs roster they'll try to trade him or put him on waivers.

Trade Nylander and let Bracco play RW with Matthews. Win/win.

He’s CLOSE to being an NHLer, but I don’t see him making the Leafs in the near future. There’s a tonne of RWs ahead of him, and even if he switches to LW, we’ve simply got about a dozen wingers better than him:
  1. Marner
  2. Nylander
  3. Kappy
  4. Hyman
  5. Johnsson
  6. Mikheyev
  7. Clifford (UFA)
  8. Barbanov
  9. Engvall
  10. Malgin
  11. Petan
  12. Nick Robertson (don’t think he makes it this year, but way ahead of Bracco long term, Kappy/Hyman range-ish)
There’s only 8 NHL winger spots, ~10 with injuries. He’s also not even necessarily ahead of guys like Aberg, Korshkov, Salomaki.

If there’s a team where he’d have a decent shot at playing in the NHL, I’d hope we’d deal him there for a 7th round pick or something, but doubt he’d return much more than that.

There’s a lot of players who are ALMOST, but not quite good enough to make the NHL, and IMO Bracco is likely to be one of those, unless he can significantly improve his compete level, physicality and defensive play.
