If you were just to watch Brink in the offensive zone, where agility, quick acceleration, and strong edges matter a lot more than top speed, you would think any criticism of his skating is absurd. Bobby is really hard to shut down once he goes to work. Credit to Sioux Falls for more or less accomplishing this feat all year. They are one of only 4 teams in the USHL to pull it off.
However, in transition his lack of top speed is immediately obvious, and he's a bit of a puck pusher when carrying it at speed. When you gain the zone with possession as a winger, you have 3 choices: drive outside, cut inside, or button hook. Brink almost always button hooks because he can't beat guys outside with his speed. Sometimes he will slow down to draw a defender in just to quickly accelerate past their check to ''beat them outside,'' but it's not the way that a Filip Forsberg would do it. If there's one thing that Brink needs to improve, it's this. If he does, though, there's almost no telling how good he could be, IMO.
The more questionable assessment in that video is how you can give a guy a 1 (as in, elite) for "think," but still list decision making as an area in need of improvement? He's done this with Dorofeyev as well, and usually it's accompanied by a clip where there was a weird pass made. That doesn't signal poor decision making to me, in itself. That just sorta happens sometimes when you're almost always the F1 on your line.
