This guy makes some pretty decent vids

Weird how emphatic he was about Brink’s lack of foot speed. Pretty much every single other other scouting report I’ve read on him has described him as speedy, having quick feet, and having good speed.

If you were just to watch Brink in the offensive zone, where agility, quick acceleration, and strong edges matter a lot more than top speed, you would think any criticism of his skating is absurd. Bobby is really hard to shut down once he goes to work. Credit to Sioux Falls for more or less accomplishing this feat all year. They are one of only 4 teams in the USHL to pull it off.

However, in transition his lack of top speed is immediately obvious, and he's a bit of a puck pusher when carrying it at speed. When you gain the zone with possession as a winger, you have 3 choices: drive outside, cut inside, or button hook. Brink almost always button hooks because he can't beat guys outside with his speed. Sometimes he will slow down to draw a defender in just to quickly accelerate past their check to ''beat them outside,'' but it's not the way that a Filip Forsberg would do it. If there's one thing that Brink needs to improve, it's this. If he does, though, there's almost no telling how good he could be, IMO.

The more questionable assessment in that video is how you can give a guy a 1 (as in, elite) for "think," but still list decision making as an area in need of improvement? He's done this with Dorofeyev as well, and usually it's accompanied by a clip where there was a weird pass made. That doesn't signal poor decision making to me, in itself. That just sorta happens sometimes when you're almost always the F1 on your line.

His top end speed is a concern but he's got quick feet and great hands. He didn't create much last night but the game was very tight checking. I'd compare him to Jordan Eberle...

not many lines with 3 burners on them.... offense come in layers now days.... his feet are good off the hop, that's the most important thing, its not like he's not going to be able to keep up with the play.

Yea I didn't see it as a concern just that he doesn't have great top end speed. He definitely has skill and works hard at both ends.

I really like Ryan Johnson and think he's got decent potential to be a 2nd pair guy. Great skater and really smart player.

Mark it down. This kid will be the main facilitator and run a 1st unit NHL PP. His vision and smarts seem top end. A great shot as well. Upside and lots of room for physical maturation. Exactly the type of kid who ends up a draft steal. A top 15 pick imo.

It makes sense.

The 1 means he's shown the ability to be one of the smartest guys in the draft, but the C means it's more so flashes than him showing it consistently.

I hadn't seen that much of Brink coming into this tournament. I think he could go in the late first, but I would be careful of thinking he's a definite steal. He has parts of his game to work on. He's a cherry picker. He's excellent on the PP with a very good shot and playmaking, but he's a small winger with average skater who doesn't add much of a defensive component, physical component and his motor needs work. He'll score points, but its too early to say if thats as one of the best forwards in the KHL/SHL or as a good complimentary top six winger in the NHL.

I would not be surprised if the flyers took him or Newhook actually. Just seems like a flyers type of a pick to me.

If Krebs is available at 11 I’d be shocked if Philadelphia passed on him. They seem to love the high character, two way guys such as Rubstov and Farabee. Newhook is a lot like Frost, I’d be interested if they do indeed pick Newhook

Starting to agree. I doubt any American players fall to the flyers. Assuming Caufield, Turcotte,Boldy, Zegras get drafted in the top ten. Not sure if they would take Pod here if he falls. York could go in the top ten. He reminds me of mcavoy.Plus newhook has a similar game to barzal. College bound too fletchers favorite. Either way good players will be available.
