RW Alexander Nylander (2016, 8th, BUF)

Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. Just like his brother, he's AHL eligible I think, because he wasn't drafted onto a CHL team.

He's being drafted out of the OHL though, which restricts him under the AHL age requirements. Where his brother was taken from Europe and could go directly to the AHL.

There was a weird thing that happened with Julius Honka(Stars prospect) a couple offseasons ago.

Basically it was ruled that since he was on loan to the WHL, he was still technically property of his team in Finland and therefore was not getting drafted out of the WHL. He was AHL eligible as a 18 year old because of it.

Because Alex Nylander is on loan to Mississauga, there's an assumption he'll be able to do the same.

Haven't watched as many Steelheads games of late as I have been watching other prospects. However, the Last game I did catch was the London game and the entire team was not playing well.

If he is indeed on loan, then he should be eligible to go to the AHL... now I'm not sure the team that drafts him would send him there but I do believe it is an option.

He's playing well enough that he probably should play in the AHL if that is an option. Steelhead's are hoping to be a memorial cup team next year, and probably have the foundation to do it if they do not lose Nylander or Mcleod. From what I've heard from people within the organization when asked about the loan and Honka situation, they seemed surprised that it was possible. But that type of info may only be known at the highest level.

Well it's known here on HF so probably not :naughty:

He’s an excellent skater with a deadly shot, but he can score goals from in close thanks to a ridiculous set of hands. Nylander is able to make smart decisions as he maneuvers through traffic, and his ability to stickhandle in and around a dense field of sticks and skates while knowing exactly where his linemates will be makes him an indefensible threat on the rush. He’s impossible to prepare for, as he can beat you with his playmaking or his heavy shot. And much like his aforementioned brother, Alexander loves to hang onto the puck for what may seem like an eternity, but is done in a sensible fashion without trapping himself into a corner.

Another kid who can sneak into the top 5, and not a person will complain about it. Doesn't get enough credit for his vision and passing ability, which is on par with the top playmakers in the draft.

I've been saying this from the start of the year. But I do agree about one thing. He does not get enough credit as a prospect. This kid can finish, and I do not think enough people realize just how tough that is when you get to the NHL. I don't think this will be a problem for Alex.

After 2 more assists tonight, he's at 75 points in 54 games. On a mid-level team.

Hell of a rookie season. Crazy to think there's a very real chance he'll be the 7th or 8th overall pick.

Him and McLeod have slowed down a bit since the WJCs ended. 1.18 PPG pace for Alex Nylander, and a 1 PPG pace for Mike McLeod. Will be interesting to see how they measure up in the playoffs, Steelheads only have 5 games left this season.

But 6-8 range seems like a good bet for him. Can't see him going ahead of the big 3 + Dubois and Chychrun. He fits in more with the Tkachuk, McLeod grouping.

So how long is he out? He could have helped Mississauga potentially draw a more favourable playoff match up.

Alex Nylander fell off a bit towards the end of the season. Went goalless in his last 10 games, and, overall, had 7 goals and 26 points in the 24 games after the WJCs.

Barrie is going to be a tough match up for Mississauga.

Didn't he state that he wanted to be picked by the Leafs to play with his brother? I wonder if that is going to scare a couple of teams away from picking him.
