Honestly I've been fine with Clowe since he came back from neverneverland. He was a -5 with one assist in his first six games when the whole team stunk, so he's had 18 points in 28 games and is a -6 since coming back (-4 in one game against the Hawks).

Clowe would be on a 50 point pace, over a full 82 game season, since he came back and worked off the rust. That's on an offensively challenged team as well. Its pretty much his career norm. Not quite sure what the point of complaining about him is.

Barring any unforeseen future problems with Clowe I would expect he puts up 35-45 points a year.

I was very optimistic and still think Ruutu will be great for us as long as we have Jagr and Pete next year.

I would vote for 1. We traded a RFA that had trouble sticking in our lineup for a hard nose vet with a history of scoring 10+ goals.

A lot of people claim to watch a lot of hockey, but it mainly is their teams games and highlights. I would bet 95% of the people complaining saw Ruutu less than 5 games over the last 2 years.

So you are saying you've watched a lot of Cane games from this season?

Clowe is rounding into shape lately.
The biggest complaint I have with him is too many unforced turnovers.
Anyone think we coumd have gotten a 3rd for Ryder?
Then callup Boucher.

Watch Ryder score a huge GW goal soon to make me look silly.

Yeah right. I'm still waiting for Ryder to score any kind of a goal. :shakehead

If he doesn't straighten out, I would trade him. We shouldn't have any problems since his salary isn't bad for a 20+ goal scorer. It just sucks that he goes through too many cold streaks.

I definitely agree on Ryder and Boucher. I'm fine with a 3rd centered by Elias, Clowe grinding and playing tough to his left, and Boucher sniping and learning the NHL game from Patty. I think Ryder could be dealt in the offseason. Ideally I'd look to acquire (from a team looking for offense) a 4th line center with long term 3C potential to replace Eliad when he retires and maybe had some 2C upside. Nashville and Colton Sissons come to mind. Lou supposedly liked Sissons a lot before the 2012 draft.

If Ryder doesn't shape up, we're still stuck with him until the offseason since the Trading Deadline passed.

We rag on Travis alot but at the very least he brings very good DEFENSIVE-play night-in and night-out. Ryder's only skill is scoring and when he isn't doing that, he might as well be Cam Janssen out there.

Did Cam Janssen even have a 20 game goal drought this season?

Oh no. I am one of the 95% that watch every Devil game + a few random games. Ruutu looked great in the OLY, but I like stats and Ruutu has been a quality player for most of his career. Not to mention he was very noticeable when we played the Hurricanes.

Clowe is a very good passer. It is too bad him and Henrique are stuck with Ryder, he just brings any line down. If he can be a 45-50 point player I'm fine with the contract even if it is a bit much.

Ryder needs to be on a line with good passers.. He's at his best when he sneaks into the slot and gets a good feed there.. If we don't give him good passers, he's useless

Ryder will be fine. He just needs to find a way to get the puck in the net. Once he does, it'll be hard for him to keep it out of the net. That's how he works. You gotta live with the famine if only for the glorious feast.

That said, this slide he's on is like a career worst, so to think this is normal for him is silly.

If this team makes the playoffs, it will be fun to see all those whining about Ryder start to get on his jock.

He has always been acquired for one reason: the postseason.

lol, so a guy who can't create anything for himself magically transforms into a different player in the postseason?

EDIT: And I'm not sure what's so great about 21 goals in 74 career playoff games. Not bad, but below his regular season production.

He's only had two really good playoffs. 08-09 with Boston and 10-11 with Boston when they won the cup.

So we are same boat. And at the time of the trade you had no concern that Ruutu missed a bunch of games last year and was in the midst of a horrible season this year?

Stat's certainly suggested that Ruutu had fallen off a cliff. And sure looks like I made too much of an assumption off those stats, did not figure that he had regained his form(Though Lou did say he had turned a corner) And no I did not really notice him in either Finland game I watched, so I did not have that to suggest he was playing better(though some Finnish fans said he had but not until he had already played a couple in NJ).

I admit I was way off on the trade. But my reasoning was based on fairly sound ground, at least statistically speaking.

He got injured which happens. He also wasn't as bad as people think this year with CAR. He only played 14:15 ATOI and his 6.3 S% was half his career average of 12.1. Before this season he was on a pretty good streak of getting ~.25 goals per game (20 in 82) and his low in Assists per game was only .22 and his high was .46.

I knew his playing style so I knew he would play well with Pete and fit nicely with Zajac and Jagr. Chemistry is pretty damn important. You could have all the skill in the world (Kovy) and play like **** if you are stuck with a linemate that has a different playing style (Zajac).

Ruutu is going to be a great asset for this team and I won't be surprised if he puts up 50 PTS pace playing with Jagr and Zajac.
