No comeback whatsoever under the present situation. They should f*** off.

The same principled stance should be adopted as towards South Africa – as long as the apartheid regime lasted, South African athletes were not allowed to participate in any international events, period.

And, of course, this thread can be locked instantly, because there is really nothing to discuss here without encroaching upon "politics", which is forbidden by HFBoards rules.

No need for team war criminals now or in the future. If they do want a Russian team eventually then it can not include any sanctioned individuals (such as Tretiak, Fetisov, Rotenbergs - the whole Russian Hockey Federation leadership really) or those including any players in any way affiliated with the Russian military (CSKA Moscow, SKA St. Petersburg) or other relevant state institutions involved in war crimes and other crimes against humanity.

So, MatchTV is predicting Russia overthrows Putin somehow and accepts to put an end to its 10-year war of agression, within the next year? On Ukraine's terms, of course. I mean, that's the only way Russia is welcome back to most international events.

Maybe an international tournament could be set up in Sebastopol or Luhansk, to celebrate its liberation from nearly 10 years of enemy occupation. The cost of the needed infrastructure (and demining) could come from Russian reparations.

Other thread was totally derailed by some cringe propaganda. Cringe to the point that you doubt there are real people behind some accounts.
So let me just say that it is not happening in 2023 or 2024

Russia needs to come back, how is it possible to not have one of the top countries in hockey be barred from an actual best v best tournament?

I couldn’t care less about politics, the athletes did nothing wrong. These tales are horrible and cringe

Damn, shocking that someone with the handle "Smirnov2Chistov" would have this opinion.

I'll be happy to not see the Russian flag at an IIHF event for many, many years. Between the war and the numerous doping scandals, I just don't see why they should.

russia is a terrorist state, pariah state and should be treated accordingly. IIHF needs to suspend their membership until the war is over, reparations agreed - no talks whatsoever regarding participation in any events before that happens.

World is living without best on best tournament from 2014. If there is a tournament with full NHL representation but without Russia, this tournament is better than anything that had Russia there since 2014.
This line of best on best is overrated, in fact best on best is not theoretially possible, there are always injuries, sicknesses, bad shapes etc.

Simple - you ban them. I don't see why that's an issue.

The Russian athletes are invading Ukraine? New to me

Lol, it’s been my handle since I came on this board years ago.

Here we go with the geo-political issues. The US has been at war with the Middle East for how many years now? Should we ban them from international competition?

Lol, keep telling yourself that Russian exclusion is great for the worldwide exposure of the game

Ban Russia, fine. But quit with the hysterical virtual signalling.

Self-interest the prominant IIHF member countries is the reason. Russia's banishment is essentially an extention of the sanctions imposed by the EU/US/etc.

This has nothing to do with ethics.
