Again, Keith costs $5.5, not $15.5, they can EASILY take a run at him.
Somewhere in between the two takes.

We could certainly afford to take a run at Landeskog. But if we got him that would necessitate leaving one or two other holes for rookies/replacement salary players.

Sure, but that's always a reality. And there's nothing to suggest you can't get a reasonable player at a lower then standard rate.

Really not liking the idea of going after Hyman the more I think about it. He seems to get all his points from in tight and around the goal. You may be thinking that's a good thing as we need some more guys in the dirty areas and such. The thing is, when I watch the Leafs I would say they are one of the best teams in the League at getting pucks in and around the net, and then collapsing towards net front to pot the eventual chances. They seem to be able to do this at will. Hyman feasted in a system that promoted this. Oilers are not that great in this department and have issues penetrating the center of the ice in the o-zone. I feel Hyman's production drops like a rock on the Oilers.

Also, he's valued cause of his high motor and effort level. Not valued cause of his skill. So if that motor goes, look out, cause there's not much else there. He'll be paid UFA dollars and term, I think its way too risky for a player of this type. This is the type of player you try and develop from within and ride the cheap years of his contract, which shouldn't be impossible considering the lack of skill, a 3rd or 4th round guy could become this.

He's the David Clarkson version of a free agent. Still a good player, but he will definitely not warrant a big contract and the oilers should stay away from him. Go after Hall or Tatar.

Dude's overrated and I think the Avs know this. He plays with two elite players in Rantanen and MacKinnon and his production is juiced up because of that.
Maybe, but it also shows he’s capable of producing well with elite players, which is the exact type of player that the Oilers need more of. He’s also capable of playing that physical grinding role with skilled elites on his line, which is again what we need more of.

Dont bother with the positivity police man. For some posters you cannot be critical on here without being a fake fan.
You all are ridiculous, you know it is not either or right? There is a middle groud, you can be frustrated by management and critical without being a constant barrage of whining toxicity too...Some of you are here t fight instead of talk hockey. Not posting constantly the sky is falling is not being "Positivity police" either, just how can you have a good conversation with replies like this.

Yeh, it is a bit deep but someone on the threads probably has the answer.
We won't really know. The NHL insurance policy is complicated. But what is true is that not every player is covered. Typically it is the top salaries but how many can vary with teams. There is also a limitation on the number of years a contract can be insured.
