Question

Do you try to keep Kane at the expense of Bison King and Yamamoto
No. This is a pure rental. Enjoy it while it lasts, but let Kane go out and decide his future once the season's over. There's no logic behind moving out multiple young, improving players to latch onto a guy like Kane who has only a handful of good seasons left at a price tag well beyond what we can afford.

I'm also really impressed with how heavy Yamamoto's stick has become. He's really rounding out as a very solid complimentary forward.

Kane is making his impact known. Our young guys can see what makes him effective in that role.

You have to look at Kane if he's willing to stay at around 4-5M AAV imo. Move Kassian to make space.

You would lose one. If Kane is a fit, then I would keep him and trade JP as he probably gets you the best return to fill anothe hole.

Just my thoughts.

These prices are insane, I know people want Holland to make a splash but that’s way more than I could stomach in a year like this personally.
These are the guys that teams are in bidding wars for. There's a long list of guys that can be had for a song closer to the deadline.

If we're making one of these big 'splashes', it's probably going to be a depth forward.

The Oilers equivalent of that package is a 1st, two future 2nds, Samurokov and Russell. I don’t know, that seems reasonable for a true top-two defenseman who you get at 50% plus can negotiate with until FA starts. Also sets the upper bar, so that should mean the asks for every other D come down.

Uhhh

So what would people say to Barrie for Binnington?

Because I heard it might be happening from someone that works in the OEG. Not sure if it’s legit.

There’s definitely gonna be value closer to the deadline but it’ll be smaller tinkering parts. The cost for these top end rentals is just too high for where the team is at imo.

Blegh. Binnington's numbers have been on a steady decline since he won the cup and his contract sucks ass.

Why would you not rather go after Husso as a UFA?

If we acquire Binnington that guarantees one of Kane / Puljujarvi / Yamamoto aren't returning.

Yeah, not crazy about it, personally. Especially with Barrie looking like last year’s version again. Would also mean they need another top 4D

I'm just not crazy about Binnington. He's had a down year. That means Holland must have another deal for one of our other goalies.

I've really liked Koskinens play of late. And I've been one of his biggest detractors.

I sure as hell hope not, I don’t wanna be anchored by Binnington’s contract considering how bad he’s been since the Cup run. Luckily he’s got a full NTC so I think that would save us.

Could you imagine if this was us? We could have had Hagel AND Fleury, yet, we refused because it was too many futures...I'd be pissed. But seeing as the prices are insane, I'd say we hold off on anything huge unless Holland has an Ace up his sleeve.
