Holland needs to make some moves to show the core he is serious about winning, no question, but if he had a low key deadline with just adding 2-3 supporting pieces I'd be okay with that since depth wins in the playoffs. A big swing would be someone like Sanheim, but with two years of control he probably costs a 1st + 3rd + A prospect along with a salary or two going back to fit him in.

The interesting one will be at wing. There's no way to fit Kane long term at $5 million plus, so if we can make a "hockey trade" involving Barrie for a struggling winger (Schwartz, Hoffman, Silfverberg?) then you get added depth at that position this year plus someone who can jump into the top six next season and hopefully find chemistry with McDrai.

I wonder how many teams will be lining up to give Kane 5M with term?

Seems like we could trade Barrie to clear some cap, maybe another dump + picks going out in exchange for a skilled scoring forward who can play middle 6 and a RHD who is steady.

Question

Do you try to keep Kane at the expense of Bison King and Yamamoto
No. Kane has proven time and time again that the potential for lockeroom issues and personal issues is high. I really like how he's fit in here, but at any point he can revert to the player that the sharks willingly terminated.

If he wants to sign 1 year deals for a reasonable rate, I'd love to keep him coming back, but definitely not at the expense of Yam or JP.

I'm sure a team desperate for scoring will pay significantly more than the oilers should for kane this offseason imo.
