if there was an ounce of truth the oilers would have been hit with tampering charges--any indirect or direct exchange or conversations the NHL would have come down and with Hall reportedly saying he would not talk contract till after the season?

Hall has said he wants to win the cup--oilers are not close to that level and may not be for a few more years

There are not many contenders or even pretenders who can afford Hall going forward. About 20 teams would have to make serious moves with their roster to fit him in.

The Ohlund thing was ten years ago and it was media-driven because Tampa Bay signed him to a seven-year contract just fifteen minutes into free agency. The Canucks never complained and the league didn't investigate it.

There was a contact impass when they were first trying to sign Ohlund and from what was described someone from around the Ohlund camp talked to someone who around the leaf scouts to gauge their interest in Ohlund. NHL said at the time there was no evidence of direct contact between the two parties---but that tied with the Stevens thing lead the NHL and teams to agree to rules of what can and can not be done. But because the NHLPA was not involved players are allowed to talk to each other but no agents, scouts and pretty much all non player contact would get a long look.

It was in about 1995, I was living in Vancouver and remember the Mortician (tony gallagher) and Mr Pimple Dan Russell spending the summer talking about it.

On the subject of Ohland--Canucks ended up doing it right by having him play 3 more years in Sweden before hitting the NHL--like the OIlers somewhat did with Klefbom and what they should do with Broberg

Nashville will probably have about $15M in cap space with 8 slots to fill. Hall at $8.5M leaves then with $6.5M to fill 7 spots. They also have Forsberg, Jarnkrok, Duchene and Arvidsson on the wings so Hall might not be the top priority.

Columbus is probably not going to be a contender with Hall. But they may throw big money at him.

Signing a 29 year old Hall to 10M long term seems very risky.

We may be able to play the market as a buyer and a seller.

I don't wanna trade depth as soon as we have some.
