Finnish forwards forget how to play hockey when theyre in oil silksI honestly don't know what this means.
Along with that, I was thinking it'd be a good idea to get Persson on the PP, pump up his value and be ready to trade him in the offseason. I really like the player, but I think he's obviously just keeping that spot warm for Bouchard. Basically make the reverse of the Kahun for Maatta trade.
Adding Hall and a couple of decent, young 2nd/3rd liners while keeping basically the same D core(Persson/Russell out, Bouchard/Jones in) would be pretty awesome.

So Puljujarvi--a player with zero NHL experience--and a bunch of fourth line plugs?Haven’t had much luck with the Finnish forwards. Granlund, Puljujarvi, Jokinen, Hartikainen, Joenssu (probably missing a bunch of others)

Seems like an odd argument. When have we ever acquired someone with actual established NHL skill?
Are we crossing off all the Russians, too?
You can't front-load with bonus money. He doesn't qualify for bonuses until 35.You could probably get Hall at a cheaper cap hit by just front loading that deal with a lot of bonus money. More money in his pocket sooner, gets the team a bit of a discount and frees up a little money to upgrade somewhere else on the roster. Pretty much all FA's that come here need to be quite overpaid to even sign the contract. Hall is probably one of the rare few that would actually want to come here on his own.

I thought you were talking about performance bonuses, my mistake.Sure you can. Go look at Marners contract. He has a signing bonus of 15.3m this year, and 14.3m next year. His actual base salary is only 700k.
Or maybe were just signing the wrong players.Haven’t had much luck in this department either. Have we even had an impact Russian or Finnish forward since Kurri/Tikkanen?
Maybe it’s the language barrier or not enough fellow countrymen in the organization but our luck in regards to players from these 2 countries at the forward position has been downright pitiful for the last 2 decades +

I would think that most if not all teams will front load an offer to Hall so I am not sure how we would get a discount. Given we are a high tax bracket we will have to probably overpay.
I’m not sure how we would get Hall unless he decides to pass on 20 million dollars over 7 years.
They can always manipulate the taxes though. This article talks about how Tavares could save a bunch in taxes.
John Tavares Could Save Nearly $12 Million In Taxes On His New Contract
You can tax plan in any state or province so an athlete can save millions in taxes regardless where they sign.
Bottom line is you will take home more net dollars in Vegas, Nashville and Florida and most other places than Canada.
Yeah but does he want to go there, and do those teams want him? Vegas and Nashville are already pretty much capped out, and Nashville already has enough 6m+ forwards on that roster.
He wouldnt be in our divisuon. We can land Burakovsky when Colorado signs Hall, but we'll never make it past them again after that so it wont really matter who we sign. Hall is a dangerous guy to have signing in your division. Better just... yknow... sign him.
FTR, I’ve heard similar with Hall, to the point that his dad flew out last year to meet with Oiler management to discuss possible fit. That was with the Chiarelli regime, however, so things could have changed significantly.
Kurri and Tikkanen were both ok.Haven’t had much luck with the Finnish forwards. Granlund, Puljujarvi, Jokinen, Hartikainen, Joenssu (probably missing a bunch of others)
