Still laughing at all the comments that Nichuskin doesn't have to put up points to be worth that contract.

You make 6+mil a year for 8 years and you damn well better be putting up some points along the way.
I disagree. Would you rather a guy that puts up 80 points but is a -20 or a guy that puts up 40 points that is a +20 ? Point aren't everything.

That is very helpful. It may mean that the Oilers get a chance to respond to the best offer. But the conversation also suggests that there is interest from the client in staying.
I think it ultimately comes down to money, but if he isn't getting the offers he is looking for I could see him signing with the Oilers for less. Maybe not millions per year less, but just less in general.

The other thing is when does the cap go up again? Is it 24-25 now?

I wonder if maybe Kane is looking at 2 year deal and then going long-term. Bit risky at his age, but if he's been offered 2-3mil a year less than he is currently worth, then it might be worth it.

According to Kaplan, the price for Chychrun at the deadline was a young roster player, top prospect and a first round pick.

Based on that, I wonder if you could swing Foegele, Broberg and a 1st.

Almost be worth it to see if they'd want a trade around JP and a 1st with someone like Samo or Lavoie.

Chooch would be a great replacement for Keith. Bump Kulak down to 3rd pairing, and Bro as our 7th.

Lol I rather Patrick Kane over Foligno or Erik Haula

Points are something when you start paying guys north of 6mil.

Nichuskin is currently being paid as the 64th highest paid forward in the NHL. You simply need to produce getting that kind of money.

Perhaps your point is better made with individual fancy stats, as +/- is nearly useless in evaluating single players given that it really is a group metric. Still, yes $6 mill for a 40 pt guy is too much. If he is a defensive beast, the market is still not $6 mill in my mind.

Would really like to see a Kulak signing today, just get the 4 year $10m contract done with, then lets attack free agency.

I think the chances of trade have drastically lowered the last 24 hours with all these useful players (forwards mainly) likely hitting the free agent market so Holland will likely have to make his mark with free agency signings. Assuming Campbell at 5, Kulak at 2.5, Yamamoto at 3 and McLeod at 1.5, they'll have roughly 11m to fill out the rest of the roster, Pulju signing etc.

How am I supposed to get anything done tomorrow?
How am I supposed to get anything done today, thinking about how I'm not going to be able to get anything done tomorrow?
I don't even know if tomorrow is going to be the busy day or today, lol.

Even though the NHL never has tampering I feel like today might be busier:laugh:

If they can ship out Barrie and add someone like Weegar I would be all over that.

It's a bit concerning that we haven't heard any potential targets on the defensive end. I sure as hell hope Holland isn't satisfied with

Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Bouchard
Broberg - Barrie

You're counting on Kulak to step up into a 2nd pairing role full time (something he has never done) while still playing with a young defenseman in Bouchard and Barrie being able to carry Broberg at evens on the third pair.

I like Kulak but if we sign him and also acquire another LD that leaves no place for Broberg. That's why I'm a proponent of using him as a trade chip to acquire someone like Chychrun.

How about JP AND Yams, Samorukov and a 1st.
I would be interested in that if Giroux was signed and maybe another RW on the cheap like Kessel or a Brown trade.
Especially with Samarukov being waiver eligable.
Keep in mind I view both JP and Yams as third line wingers.

Would include Foegele and Crouse in there.

Hopefully with the market opening up a bit the team can get a better deal on Campbell if that is their target. Who else is looking for a 4-5M goalie right now?

A guy I’ve always really liked and I wonder if he’d be available is Rantta. He’s had some rough injury luck but when he plays he’s always put up good numbers. I think he’d be a good tandem option if they wanna give skinner a shot.

What about Zach Auston Reese for depth? Guy always seems to look good when I watch him. PITT always ends up having guys in the bottom 6 that look good.

I doubt the price changes much. It's been near unanimous from the media that he's coming here, for the last few days. I'm sure we are not the only team his agent was talking to, so if he was 'off' the market that far back, we would have needed to give some kind of contract commitment to him in order to get that commitment from him.

Can't see the GM turning around and trying to renegotiate now that a bunch of the player's other options dried up. You can get away with doing shit like Markstrom (changing your mind or altering deals last second) as a player because you sign your long term deal and then don't deal with GMs for a long time. Harder to do that as a GM when you need to sign and resign 10 players every year and there's only so many agents out there. It's a lot easier to burn bridges as a GM than an agent, cause the agent can just say 'it was my player, not me'.

Going to Campbell now and changing the deal from 5x5 or 5x4 to 4x4 or 4x3 because he has not many options left, is a good way to not have players trust you.

If the Flyers stupidly buy out Lindblom, the Oil should be all over him. especially w/ Broberg joining the team. Oskar is a good mid 6 forward who is getting his game back and is fantastic on the boards

His #'s were good when the Flyers were actually good

80 points, quite easily. Difference offensively is an entire 2nd line player. For all we know the player -20 because the goaltender has a sub 0.900 sv%.

the media keeps trying to make every transaction for a goalie make our situation even more dire. In reality our targets are/were husso, keumper, and Campbell. Two in theory are still there and one was taken off the board for a premium. There is a difference between teams looking for starting goalies and just goalies. Lots in the latter.
