Trading Kakko for a rental and some low picks is definitely something.

Parity is huge in this league. There are no requirements to win a cup anymore. We could win the cup without making a single move. The Pens won a cup with Justin Schultz as their #1D. We had that kind of situation with Skinner in net. When he starts slumping in the playoffs it's like overcoming a 2 loss handicap. And yes, a team with McDavid, Draisaitl, Ekholm and Bouchard can do that.

I am fine with keeping Skinner. I will even say that maybe he's better than his stats and advanced stats say. But, maybe not. I don't get why we wouldn't explore that.

Why not put a Blackwood next to him, or whatever goalie you'd think is interesting to try? Cycle guys in. I would bet that that strat will pay off big for Colorado, just like it did for Vegas. If Vegas had our attitude to goalies, would they have a cup? I think not

The fact that Pickard has looked good here just tells me that maybe a truly great talent would shine here.
If they want to go and get a Pickard upgrade, sure go get it. But if you are looking at a guy and not quite sure if he's even a Pickard upgrade, just be careful what you spend is all I'm saying. We don't have unlimited assets or cap space, and we do need to pick and choose what we do. It includes the hard costs but also includes considerations for team and locker room chemistry. So just make a good bet and it'll be fine. If that good bet isn't out there, maybe that's why they haven't made the move.

If we get a dream addition at RD, that eats up our trade budget I'm fine with that. In the modern NHL you can win it all even with a big flaw.

I thought it would cost more than that to acquire Kakko and you'd have to imagine NYR will extend Borgen, otherwise that trade is downright horrible for them.

It all comes down to the big picture. The team in it's totality. For example, If you have an Elite Team D and Average Goaltending (us) or you have an Elite Goaltending and Below Average Team D (Rangers). Does it really matter if the GA is the exact same? Then what puts you ahead of the Rags last year would be our forwards compared to theirs.

Damn I wanted Kakko
What do you see in him Bobby?

I still feel like especially with goalies, there are buy low candidates that just might play at a high enough level to match what the elites can do, even if only for one run. It's almost impossible to be sure, but then you could be like the Avs and try lots of guys until you find a diamond in the rough

Get Podkolzin producing at a .5PPG pace (very doable) and we SMOKE that Kakko deal.

You are right. That's why I always wanted to go with a Cheap Goalie Rotation. To find and ride the hot hand, but to be in a position where we can switch up that hot hand when and if needed. That became less and less of a reality when we went all in on Campbell. And now have his cap hit for the next 6 years or whatever. But we can still do it, but like I said earlier, just make sure its a good bet.

Do GM's do simple things like contact all of the others to say your guy is available? Seems like most don't when other offers could beat what they got

From earlier as well. Maybe it was already posted:

Seravalli: I'm told the Canucks feel like they've made some progress on their search for an impact Dman and an efficient puck mover. There seems to be a heightened sense of urgency in the past 24-48 hours... Certainly on alert with the Canucks.

Of all the players that have been traded so far this season, Kakko, Liljegren, and Tomasino are the only ones I really wish we'd been in on. That's peanuts to pay for a player like Kakko who'd fit right in with our middle 6 skillset wise, with potential for top 6 in a Podkolzin-esque role if we could get him going.

Not only just a chance. Literally close to the best chance in the League. Like we had last year and like we are trending again to have this year. As an Oilers fan or hockey fan, what more can you ask for.
Honestly I'll give you that, as an Edmonton Oilers fan, we are quite blessed. :)

I have a feeling if Kakko was an Oiler his value would be placed at zero league wide. Like what we saw out of the "busted" Broberg.
I think Broberg had value, I wouldn't confuse the opinions of the main HF trade forum group think with league/GM perception of our players or prospects.

In the main boards opinion the only good players on our team are McDavid + Drai and I guess Ekholm and everyone else is either a leech being propped up by McDrai or sucks. Heck I've seen more than a few argue even Draisaitl is a fraud being carried by McDavid, there is no shortage of ignorance or stupidity on the main forum.

Wow, we couldn't beat that? Sounds like Drury just traded based on emotion for what was said this morning. Terrible quality in a GM

It's true, the mains are dumb. But if Broberg had anywhere near close to his first round value, we really should have moved him when signs appeared he wasn't happy. It's not the most crazy move for a GM to make, we've seen it happen all the time recently. A young prospect doesn't like it there, ship him out ASAP. Happened to Rutger, happened to Jiricek, and others.
