I just find the whole thing silly and more dirty pool from the Knights.

The Waivers system is designed so that if you aren't going to use a player in an NHL role, another team has the right to use that player in an NHL role. It's designed to advantage the player and give a player an NHL shot. But what the Knights did here is do the exact same thing the Oilers were going to do, put him in the AHL.

The Knights FAFOed in trying to troll us with Lavoie. They are now burning a contract spot on a player they have no long-term interest in while he actively sewers their AHL team (-15 in 17 games!!!). It serves them right for messing with a young guy's development for zero reason.

Meanwhile we could use Lavoie on our offense starved farm team. If I were his agent I'd have looked at filing a grievance with the PA, this whole fiasco has been incredibly detrimental to his career.

It’s so unfair to Lavoie. He was trending well in Bako, and now his career and chances at the NHL are cratering.

And all this cause the Knights abused the waiver system. If they weren’t going to use him on the NHL roster why claim him?

Seriously, f*** the Knights.

No, not unless another team put a claim in for him when Vegas claimed him the second time. It was a smart move by Vegas, they basically either get a prospect for nothing or he goes back to Edmonton, no downside.

Luckily for Edmonton, Lavoie's time as a viable prospect seems to be winding down.
Sucks for Lavoie because he had worked his way into being a call up option for us. Vegas steps in and basically sewered his future.

Another cautionary tale for overpaying young players big in a Canadian market ... Juraj Slafovsky was given a $7+ mill extension coming off a nice 20 goal year ... he's on pace to score 6 goals this year. Yikes.

Playing in Canada, when you get paid big, the expectations and pressure can get to players, that's why I feel like even if we had matched the offer sheets, those guys wouldn't be producing anywhere near the same here.

I’m starting to think the best move might be to trade for the best centre you can get. I’m sure it will be a replacement for Stecher, but imagine adding another top six centre to the mix using this years second and a first, and bumping Ryan out of the lineup. The forward group would be absolutely stacked.
If I'm Bowman, I'm looking if I can buy low on Sissons. Having a down year but could be retained down to $1.43m for the next two seasons. Would be a very small impact on this year's cap. Tons of flexibility, plus PKer, great on the draw and has shown well in the postseason.

Because even Skinner's biggest backers will admit he is up and down and needs a better 1A/B to push him.

You worry about a D injury, what would happen if Skinner gets hurt?

The Oilers would be left with Pickard having to basically play all the rest of the games and Broissoit not only has 0 NHL playoff experience, he has 0 NHL experience period. Kid hasn't played even a single period in the NHL. That would be a disaster.
Girl what? Brossoit has 118 starts in the NHL.

Vegas should do the right thing and trade him back to the Oilers for futures but they won’t. Not that I think he’s an option for the Oilers but he’d help Bako.

Unfortunately I do think the ship has sailed on his NHL dreams. I do agree he’d help Bako.

It sounds like Trotz still thinks the kids are the problem which makes f*** all sense, but if so I would look at Parssinen over Sissons given their ages and contracts. I think “Parsnip” has lots to give as a 6’3 center under 25. Would be the ideal 4C of the future at the absolute low end with tons of untapped potential.

Beyond frustrating that we're talking about acquiring Colton Sissons for center depth because of how terrible Adam Henrique and Derek Ryan are when we let two vastly superior, fast, young players go in Ryan McLeod and Dylan Holloway who combined make about the same amount of money.

I wouldn't worry much about getting younger for that role. Considering we've got a number of guys in the system in O'Reilly, Philp and Savoie, I'd prefer a player who is a match for the Ryan role and capable of being a mentor to some of the younger guys.

Parssinen is an interesting option out there, but I see him as more of an option for a team that's rebuilding and lacking in forward depth. I think he'd have a hard time getting into our roster considering he doesn't play a role on the special teams.

Lol how is Henrique terrible.
He's a 3 million dollar center on pace for less than 25 points while being much weaker defensively than the guy he was supposed to be an "upgrade" on in McLeod, both in terms of even strength and in terms of penalty killing. He's putting up awful possession metrics on arguably the best possession team in the NHL, behind even Jeff Skinner. You can't even call him unlucky because he's actually leading all our full time forwards in PDO. He looks slow and ineffective and the team is often hemmed in our own zone with him on the ice. If you covered up the nameplate and replaced it with one of the whipping boys like McLeod/Foegele/Puljujarvi/Holloway etc he'd probably be the most hated player on the team, but he gets away with his awful gameplay because of his name value.

He started slow and has picked it up. McLeod started hot and has been garbage lately. Pace has to be the dumbest thing out there.

He’s a shut down line player, who PKs and wins face offs. I imagine those players don’t usually have nice fancies.

Shutdown line players often have excellent fancies lol, what are you talking about? And even if you want to ignore analytics, Henrique's actual production itself is awful too. Our penalty kill is also much worse in part because of replacing McLeod with him (yes I'm aware that losing Desharnais and Skinner's terrible start are bigger reasons).

McLeod's in zone defense is infinitely worse than henriques.

And McLeod's transition play is so much better that he puts up better defensive numbers than Henrique anyway. What's the point of having better in-zone defense if the puck stays in your zone for significantly longer and the opponent gets more time to generate scoring chances?

McLeod is an infinitely better skater, henrique is a smarter and more experienced player. They offer different things

Never disagreed with that. But the results show that McLeod put up significantly better defensive numbers with the 2023-24 Oilers than Henrique did on the 2024-25 Oilers despite this current team actually having better defensive structure and support, and the eye test would suggest this too with how often McLeod was the guy carrying the puck out for us. It's possible that Henrique plays better as the year progresses, but until he does we've gotten ourselves a downgrade at 3C.
