According to my cousin who listens to that other Oilers show of Brenden Escott, Stauffer pretty much announced on it that Dermott will be waived and that Oilers maybe look at a LHD instead of a RHD before the deadline.

I haven’t had a chance to listen though

What LH puck moving d are available. Fowler, Matheson, provorov, pettersson? Not sure I think any of them would be worth the 1st + that teams are asking for the player plus retention.

What if you could get McAvoy out of that tire fire in Boston?
I want an island in the south pacific about 5 miles long and 3 miles wide with a mountain towards one end and a mile long fresh water lake in the middle for the float planes to land on. You know about 70 girls aged from 18 to 25 living in their own little huts. A road around the perimeter -- the only vehicles on the island being my open top bronco and my motorbike. The coffee shop will also serve breakfast and dinner--head chef from that hotel in honolulu.
Holy great swamy NO TAXES.
You know about once a month think I will go paragliding off the top of that mountain.

I still think the play is to trade for Matheson + Montembault.

That probably makes us Cup favourites.

John Gibson with a stellar 0.853 against the powerhouse Senators.

Can't believe he's only at $6.4m
I watched this game. He wasn't good at all, but to be fair, the team played horribad in front of him. Fowler and Gudas in particular were a train wreck. I'm just not sure I want to touch anyone from that tire fire of team, if I'm honest. They remind me of the DoD oilers a little too much.

Skinner has turned his season around and he has playoff experience along with Cup Finals experience.

And you still want Montembault?

Skinner / Montembault 1a/1b would be enough to push us over the top.
The thing about backups though is they only play if things go catastrophically wrong. And sometimes it needs to go catastrophically wrong twice.

And if things aren’t going catastrophically wrong. Like if a series goes 7 games and they are all close, low scoring games, we may never see the backup suit up. Or even if we are swept but they are all 1 goal games we won’t see the back up play.

So you spend all those assets and cap space for that backup or 1B and may never see any value from it.

I’ll start by saying that as a big critic of Skinner, he’s undoubtedly been a lot better lately and looks to be playing with confidence (and not the bravado that is confused with confidence in some of his post games after mediocre showings).

However, and as good as he’s been in some playoff series, both seasons so far he’s needed his backup to come in and help salvage a series. I think it would be prudent to have a very good 1B type backup if this were to happen again this year. Seems like most of the recent Cup winners have needed two goalies to make it all the way as well, so not just a Skinner thing

I’ve looked at past cup winners going back to Pittsburgh. It’s true, the back up often did have to play (not all the time though). So having one that can play is a consideration we must make for this team. That said, sometimes they play just a small amount or not at all and we need to keep that in mind when we spend up for one.

We also need to acknowledge that the exact situation we are worried about already happened. Skinner was spotty against the Nucks, like the Oilers were spotty against the Nucks all year (I think the Nucks have a chip on their shoulder when they play us). We needed Pickard to step in, and he did so and got the job done playing 1 game in releif and 2 starts. We won that series with Pickard as backup. So we better make sure whoever we get is worth it for difference between the new guy and Pickard that has already done that job successfully.

Braden Schneider. That's the guy I target for the Oil

That's what I said before, but now that Trouba is gone, there is no chance they will trade Schneider.

Also, about Regula. It seems he has quite a bit of experience playing the left side. So while Nurse-Kulak has been more successful than anyone thought, the problem has become 'who will play LD on the bottom pair?'. Instead of Emberson-Stecher, we may see Regula rotated in.

Hopefully we never see Dermott or Brown in an Oilers jersey again.

I'm still super sore that we missed out on Fabbro, but I'm okay with these moves. Definitely not something that GMKH would have done. He treated the waiver wire like a soup kitchen. Let's see how things play out until TDL, and hopefully we just add a 1B goalie like Vejmelka.

Plenty of good teams are stronger on the left than the right. I would rather not be Toronto and overpay for big names that under perform.

Go watch the highlights and tell me he had a chance on any of those goals. First goal is a puck thrown at the net that bounces off a body straight to a Sens player net front who is completely uncovered, second was a 5 on 3 one timer that he stopped actually but I guess they ruled was under the body and in, third is a PP cross seam pass that his own D puts into their own net, 4th goal point blank tip in off a terrible non-clear, last goal is yet another PP goal where Tkachuk is completely uncovered ... I mean at best maybe a top end goalie saves 1 of those, but I don't think he had much of a chance on any of them.

The Ducks are a freaking nightmare defensively too watching those highlights, can't clear a puck to save their lives, Sens players just allowed to camp in front of the net, horrendous PK coverage. Fowler looks awful.

Another scenario I would look at honestly is I would look at moving Evander Kane to the Ducks for Gibson if that's a possibility.

Lets look at the facts, he's 33 going on 34 and has piled on massive injuries. Last year it looked like any chemistry with McDavid or Draisaitl was diminishing so he was routinely put on the 3rd line. He's too expensive to have as a 3rd/4th line player. There's a fair chance his 20 goal seasons in Edmonton are at an end.

I like the player and in a non-cap world would keep him, but as an organization a smarter team like Vegas or Florida would cut bait and move on.

I think John Gibson as a tandem pairing with Skinner helps get you closer to a Cup than Kane in the next 2-3 years.

His wife is from the LA area, so I think likely that works OK for him and his family.

I also think we have a much cheaper replacement type player for Kane in Kostin that likely is available for peanuts at the deadline.
