I really hope that he knocks it out of the park but this is a big step up from the AHL.
I am glad that he is getting a chance. Its deserved.
Agreed completely, he's really earned it. I wish they would have given him a look in that last game before the break, but he did nothing but up his stock during the break.

just going to put this here

Bob Stauffer - “Don’t be surprised if Matt Savoie stays up here and Derek Ryan goes down”.

Savoie was at practice with Leon and Podkolzin

Poor Jeff Skinner lol.

Leon said hes excited and hope they get some games together. Thinks he has great hockey sense and has been playing well.

That remains to be seen at the NHL level.
It's definitely been the case at the AHL level. Holloway's added size definitely doesn't hurt his cause, but Savoie has definitely been more impactful in Bako than Holloway was as an AHL rookie.

Holloway's AHL Rookie Season: 33gp. 8-14-22 -4 83sog. 9.6% shooting %
Savoie's AHL Rookie Season: 45gp. 13-24-37 +16 94sog. 13.8% shooting %

Kostin was perfectly fine until he priced himself out of here.
So was Yamamoto until he got hurt.

The problem with both is that they were limited one dimensional players that didn't contribute to special teams. Those are replaceable players who you can't afford to overpay as a competitive team.

Puljujarvi filled a need, too. But as the team improved, we needed better players in those spots. And if the icetime dips for any of these types, the game falls off the rails because every single one of them are players who need skilled linemates to drive their offense.

That’s usually the case with bottom 6ers. You’re only good if you can outplay your contract. Just look at Goodrow. He went for a 1st because he was cheap. Gets the big contract, and even after having the 2 best years of his career, was involved in speculation that they were trying to dump him. He then has a single down year, and ended up waived.

The team was smart not to cave to his demands. We’re much better off with Brown making a million than with Kostin making two. Nobody cares if you overpay a star by a million, but it sure hurts you when it’s depth guys getting overpaid.

Knob: I've scratched Jeff Skinner so Connor's dog Lenard can have a look in the top 6. He's been working hard on his game in the dog league and we feel he deserves a look.

As much as I like Savoie, what a big "f u" to Jeff Skinner if Knoblauch pushes him down to the 3rd line. He has 3 points in his last 2 games and making big defensive plays.

We need some beef or we will get beat down over time come playoffs.

Vegas, minny, Vancouver, Dallas, Calgary (if they make it) and others are all bigger and hit.
Ironically, the only one of those teams that are on average bigger than the Oilers is Vegas. IN terms of average weight for example Dallas is 2nd, Calgary is 28th, Vancouver is 30th and Minnesota is 31st.

I often wonder if the HF board was up and running in the 80s who would be the whipping boy on the oilers
Coffey and Fuhr back in the day but with all the chicken littles these days Semenko, Brown, McSorley, McClelland and Beukeboom would all be run out of town.
