Well....lets put it this way. Skinner isnt the player he used to be.
Do you disagree with that?

Nice to see him score against Chicago though.
Skinner is the player he's always been. But Knoblauch's message is that he can't revert to that style of play if he wants to be successful here.

I think we're seeing positive growth in the player seeing the kind of defensive effort he's shown in previous games. The goals will come the more opportunity he receives. And he'll get that opportunity if he continues to show that willingness to play the 200ft game.

29 games left. Skinner and Arvid are starting to turn their games around. Still lots of time

Would the Hawks give up Ryan Donato at the deadline? He looked pretty good last night, seems to be a good scorer. Would probably thrive some of the talent we have here.

He's a pending UFA so I am sure they would consider it. I agree he's a good possible fit, would love him in a deal that includes Murphy and/or Soderblom.

The guy we are adding should be good enough to push RNH, Arvid, Skinner down the lineup and guys like Janmark, Perry out of the lineup. If he can't do that than we are just spending assets for the sake of spending. Doesn't really address any area. Just musical chairs.

Same with goalies. The guy we are bringing should be a tier better than Pickard

I agree, however I feel like Donato might be better than a guy like Kapanen, and might be a better fit in the top six than Podkolzin. He wouldn't be my main add, that would still be a defenceman. If they're not bringing in a defenceman, I'd go after a strong top six centre who can play wing.

If only Knob can do the same to Nuge

I think that Chevaldayoff is the best trading GM in the league and I don't know if it's particularly close.

He's had to deal profile players that don't want to be there multiple times now and has still gotten full value even though everyone knows they want out.
Fully second this post. There's no GM that faces greater challenge to build and sustain an NHL organization. GM Chevy shrewdly navigates player landmines with patience and precision to turn what looks like sure lose situations into smart trades that improve their hockey team.

Essentially managing with one hand tied behind his back with an increasingly entitled workforce snubbing their nose to Winnipeg, Chevaldayoff provides sure handed, non panic leadership to negotiate deals that improve, not erode their team.

I have a ton of time for the Jets (when they aren't playing the Oilers). And I have shifted to "Buying Canadian" (except the Flames!) in cheering for Cup champions over and above the increasing Americanization of the game and shifts that include leveraging no tax destinations that further widen the buying power and tilt the competitive balance.

Easily. If you watch and follow Savoie, you can easily tell this guys hockey IQ is through the roof. The reason he's not, Its obvious 20 year old's would be a defensive liability in their first season in the NHL. The Oilers are doing the right thing by leaving him in the AHL.

You dont know what your talking about. What eye test ? Are you Points cousin brother ? Point averaged less PPG in his junior career, wasnt great defensively, and only because he played nearly 4 years in the dub that he was able to finally put up nearly 1.9 ppg at the end. Does that guarantee Savoie will be better in the NHL ? No, but at least im stating facts and your making random theories up in your head.
I'm saying Savoie will not be as good as Brayden Point. I have no idea what you are talking about anymore.

If we are not trading for a goalie or a top 4 D, getting a top line winger like Konecny before his NMC kicks in would be the biggest add.

1st, 2 x 2nds and Jarventi

Hyman-McDavid-Konecny
Skinner-Drai-Podz
Kane-RNH-Arvid
Perry-Henrique-Brown
Janmark, Kapanen
Unfortunately I do not see Philly moving Konecny for this cheap of a price.
1st, Savoie, O'Reilly/Akey

And that's only if they are interested in moving him.

Nuge? That's never been his problem. If anything, it's the other way around. He's not explosive or hard on pucks in the offensive zone. But that also has never really been his game. He's more of a slippery, cerebral player and more of a long distance runner who conserves his energy, picking his spots.

You just hope that the veterans on this roster are operating at 85%, knowing how much energy is needed in the postseason.

I'd like to see us add a top 6 guy. Alex Tuch or Brad Marchand would be top of my list.

Beyond that I'd like another D. Someone who can slot in on the left side preferably as we've seen Kulak able to fill the right side where needed and Stetcher is a nice depth piece.

I would like a goalie like Vejmelka but doubt the team pursues that.

Remember when everyone “thought” Schiefle hated being in Winnipeg and Hellybuck wasn’t going to re-sign? That contract announcement day was nuclear, in a positive way. I have full respect for Chevy.

Well that's a pretty safe bet because Point is one of the top forwards in the league. That said, Savoie doesn't have to reach that level to be a valuable player for us especially at his cap hit. If he can be a 2nd line winger at ~$1 million that is a steal.

Pretty much a bang on post.

Good stuff.

I mean maybe next year he is a 3rd line winger?

Anyways we let Holloway go for free. (imo better player) I'm not opposed to moving Savoie IF we need to. We really need to go all in here.

We should've kept Holloway and added Savoie. That would be the core of the next generation of forwards for when McDrai start to decline in ~5 years time. You don't trade a guy like Savoie for a rental. Holloway couldn't touch Savoie at the same age fwiw.

Holloway and Savoie and no McDrai would keep the Oilers in Flames territory

And Nuge has been none of that this year. Guy plays like he's afraid of his shadow

Well..I agree that Skinner was never a very strong fefensive player but IMO he is clearly not the player he used to be (in terms of goal scoring). He is getting chances though but this team badly needs finishers.
I also agree with you that Knoblauch is sending a message.

So basically we agree except that I will qualify my post by highlighting the goal scoring.

Maybe it's just me, but for me RNH has been playing really well the last month or so when he's been at center. Yes he's been bobbling at times on the PP but he doesn't usually handle the puck as much on the PP as he has lately. What does that tell you? It tells me that McDavid is deferring more because he is not healthy.
