And his team is in shambles. They all hate each other and his number 1 goalie has a permanent residency in the local hospital. He gave 11 million to a ghost who immediately stopped playing upon signing that deal.

Sure he makes trades but all he’s done is make his team worse and worse with each one. What you do you want more? An active GM who’s in on everything or a contender on top of the standings?

Had to laugh at closet Canucks fanboy Drance of the Athletic penning an article about what a fantastic deal the Miller trade was.
Miller was the driving force behind the Canucks playoff success last year and was the one player on the Canucks that scared me every time he was on the ice against us. He was a warrior and played his balls off while Pettersson was a ghost and Hughes wilted under the physicality of playoff hockey.

Oh, the Canucks traded the 1st plus stuff for Pettersson?. I actually don't hate that trade for them but they still got taken to the cleaners in the Miller trade and I'm not sure what they expect to be competing for without their best player.
Anyway, that takes an Oiler target off the market but not sure I would have been thrilled with a 1st for Pettersson.

The problem is his cap hit. We can’t make it work yet, and it’s not an overpay, so Nashville is unlikely to want to retain.

I didn’t. I might be higher on Klingberg than some, but imo Pettersson would be our #5, and I don’t think spending a 1st round pick for a guy to play bottom pairing is a good idea.

It entirely depends on if they extend Pettersson. If he’s a pure rental, you just flipped a 100 point center for a 40 point center, and you’ve got to think Pettersson knows that. He should be asking for the moon. They’re not a team that’s in a position to be spending a pick that currently sits at 11th overall for a rental

The thing with Petey, is that a lot of his past success was a direct result of having Miller as a safety blanket and a contributor to his points. That's gone now, and he will have to find some big boy pants to put on.

Miller is a good player, but Hughes is their best and has been for the past few years. For me, that's not even close. He drives that team. Still hate him and all of them though.

It’s bad news for us, that sets the market for UFA defensemen, nobody’s taking our seconds and prospects when other teams have first rounders and more/higher prospects to offer.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true.

Vancouver overpaid, doesn’t mean other teams will.
