Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

I really makes a ton of sense, imo. Now it will have to happen of course. lol

And the hockey world will get pissed at us for using the same loophole that a couple other teams have used recently.

Because it's the Oilers and the league likes to have a different set of rules for us, we'll somehow have to forfeit at 3rd rd pick to the Lames

This huge cap increase definitely helps a team like the Oilers but is probably not good for a team like Calgary who has so much cap space. Suddenly, cap space isn't as valuable as before and Calgary can't use it to their advantage anymore. HAHA suck it Flames

McDavid taking a deferral doesn't make sense, it would be the same as him just taking less money on a normal contract.
No it doesn’t. The total amount is the same and I believe there is an adjustment based on CPI at the deferral amount to account for the time value of money. It doesn’t make sense for Drai as he’s likely going back to Germany where they have a higher tax rate- but it doesn’t make sense for Connor since he will stay in Canada. If Connor moves back to Ontario- they have a higher tax rate than Alberta- so it wouldn’t work then.

Winnipeg is in genuine trouble as a franchise with numbers like this. Ottawa might be as well.
Many clubs will become budget teams.

It's gotta be because the team doesn't want anyone making more than Mackinnon(12.6M). Rantanen wants 14M and was shown the door.

Internal cap was never an issue before for the Avs. Not sure why it would be an issue now
apparently the Avs do have an internal budget. I can’t remember which talking head mentioned it- but they are operating with a budget

It would have been better if next year's number was $97, but otherwise this is pretty much what I expected.

It is also why I would talk to Bouchard about a shorter term deal. 2 years at $8M would be helpful. He could then be in a position for a very big deal in 27-28 when the Oilers would have a lot of cap space.
This is very plausible- and I’m guessing what happens. Giving him longer term would obviously bring better value long term. He is only 24- plenty of playing time left.

Man- if Hyman finishes his contract scoring 20 goals per year- that would be a ridiculous value. He is still a 40 goal guy (ridiculously poor puck luck to start the year). He will still score 35+ next year and then maybe see a slow decline

In an alternate timeline Draisaitl waits until after the cap goes up to sign both his long term contracts and earns about 25M more over his career.

I get an odd feeling that McDavid will sign for the same contract as Drai. Zero evidence- just a gut feeling….that also may just be gas…

Back to Atlanta or Phoenix for the Jets.

That’s assuming the US dollar stays the same. With Trump’s trade wars with everyone and his slashing of fundamental jobs in the civil service will lead to US isolation as trading relations build across the rest of the world.
