Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

And Colorado traded away Rantanen because of what???? With the big cap increase.. they could have easily kept him. Unless they have some internal cap or something.

In year 2 of Draisaitl's contract, he will only be taking around 12% of the Oilers cap. Amazing value.

I'm not sure what the real problem is, but I am sure that everyone involved in the negotiation between Rantanen and the Avalanche is lying.

I haven't seen a statement from anyone that makes any sense at all.

It's gotta be because the team doesn't want anyone making more than Mackinnon(12.6M). Rantanen wants 14M and was shown the door.

Internal cap was never an issue before for the Avs. Not sure why it would be an issue now

Man I wonder what Drai could have gotten if he had waited to sign after this MVP season and with the cap going up

Regarding the Rantanen situation, I thought LeBrun dropped a bit of a subtle bomb on Oilers Now this week when he mentioned that he has heard whispers that with the cap set to jump exponentially in the next few years teams like Colorado and others might preparing to operate under an internal cap.

With Katz as owner this could be amazing for the Oilers and would set the organization up to exact revenge on the league for the 90's/00's have-not years.

Regarding Saad… Friedman on 32 thoughts was saying that he might be getting offers of a 2 year deal. Unless fully bury-able I wouldn’t be a fan.

This could be a reason why the Oilers don’t sign him. I doubt they want to do a two year deal

Holy shit. Well, we can afford to keep McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard, AND another 12M Winger if we really wanted LOL. This is great news!

The new McDavid and Bouchard contracts are going to reflect the projected huge cap rise so don't celebrate yet, the numbers are going to be way higher than a lot of you are comfortable with I'm afraid. Lucky that they got Draisaitl locked up when they did.
We might be talking $18m+ with McDavid or 17 at minimum.

By all reports it was a matter of following the illogical and ridiculous mantra of "you can't make more than better player X on our team," in this case MacKinnon.

Yet people think they're the model management group.

lol why? If they traded for, I dunno, Cale Makar, we're not taking Emberson out of the lineup?

That was an exaggeration, but if Klingberg plays like a second pairing defenceman (huge if, definitely not saying I expect it), and then they trade for a defenceman who's better at everything that Emberson is good at, why wouldn't Emberson come out of the lineup?

I think the last spot on D is going to come down to Emberson and Klingberg. I would obviously give a huge edge to Emberson right now until Klingberg proves anything, but if Klingberg beats him out, then it's Emberson coming out for an upgrade.
Why do you not expect Klingberg to play as a 2nd pairing Dman?
If his hip issues were the cause of his downfall from top pairing Dman that he was in DAL then he should be a solid 2nd pairing Dman for us going forward now that his hip is fixed.

Also, by your logic Podkolzin van also be scratched when we upgrade up front. Emberson is the Podkolzin of Defense this season. Its really okay for fans to not want them get scratched or waived.

Boqvist waived by Florida.

Scratch off another guy the board freaked out about Edmonton not going after.
Could've been a good add if we hadn't signed Klingberg.

Young, Cheap, RD, from Sweden, very familiar with Bouchard.

I think we're all gonna start loving Daddy Katz pretty soon with this big cap increase and having an owner not afraid to spend to the max. It's gonna be the opposite of the 90's when we were on the other end of the spectrum. But hopefully Toronto or someone doesn't go throwing like $20 million at Connor lol

Podkolzin can absolutely be scratched. I don't think what I'm saying is controversial. Dress your best players in the playoffs. If Emberson is in the top 6, then he plays. If he gets outplayed by Klingberg and an acquisition, then he's out and will be back in the lineup next season.

Using all of the cap space is not an option imo, management's entire strategy this year has been leaving cap space open at the deadline to make significant additions. They have to add, and while it would be great if it was an elite goaltender, I doubt that's going to be available. So it'll be either a defenceman or a forward. Either way someone we all like is going to be sitting in the playoffs.

If Klingberg truly hits as a 2nd pairing guy then that does change things but Emberson is a key PKer for this team, taking top unit duties with Ekholm and has made big strides. He’s also one of the few physical players on this team and has room to grow.

At the end of the day you need some cost effective players in your lineup and the easiest way to acquire these types is having younger less proven players.

If a crazy opportunity comes along then of course bump Emberson but for a Matheson or Ristolainen type I don’t think it’s a good idea.

At 18M+, McDavid is going to wonder why he keeps crying and telling everyone to dig in in the lockerroom
