Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

I think with this coaching group it’s been clear that you don’t have to just score goals, you have to be defensively responsible- which is why they play Janmark over Skinner. I think Saad is a much better fit than Skinner, but is he good enough defensively to be an everyday middle 6 player for Knob?
He PKs doesn't he? Only -4 last year on pretty poor team. I think you at least have to present it as an opportunity and see if it works.

Oh look another free asset. I wonder if Veteran Presence is gonna bitch today how we should be paying out of our noses for assets instead of bargain finding.

A middle six winger who scored 26 last year for the right price? Sure, why not? That is much different than hoping a 32 year old offensive defender coming off a major surgery can be a #4D three years after they last looked anything like one.

If anything that should tell you I don't hate on every move this team makes (if they hypothetically did it, that is). That is much different than the folks who blindly give a pass to everything our FO does.

Oh we're signing him for sure lmfao
I wouldn't hate it. I don't know what his underlying numbers look like but 26 goals just last year and has historically been a strong playoff performer. I'd definitely be down for adding him, seems like a better fit than Skinner either way if the Oilers could somehow move him.

His underlyings are better than a good number of our bottom 6. The -14 is what sticks out, but that might be him being on a bad team. Definitely worth a look, PTO at least. You can bet Vegas and Colorado will take a look at him as well.

I'm not convinced that Arivdsson is a solution at 2RW, and might be better suited to a 3rd line role in the playoffs. Saad gives us a different look there, and he'll be very motivated to produce considering the money he just walked away from.

I think he would be playing with McDavid if he comes here. Avs and Canes makes a lot of sense too.

Saad next to McDavid would most likely force Jeff Skinner to waive his NMC
I see him as an upgrade on Janmark more myself, but I think it would push Skinner and I think Saad could still help, just not at $4.5M on the cap.

Wingers can generally play on either side.

Kane - McDavid - Hyman
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Arvidsson
Saad - RNH - Kapanen
Janmark - Henrique - Brown
Though I'll miss Corey Perry.

Saad is just another LWer lol, we don't have the roster space for this guy.
Yes we do:

Saad - McDavid - Hyman
Pod - Drai - Arvidsson
xxxx - Nuge - Perry
Janmark - Henrique - Brown

Let's you run the four centres down the middle without sacrificing anything in the top six. Gives you another option at second line wing if they ever move Podkolzin away from Drai.

Right now Philp is probably the worst player in the lineup (no hate, I just think that's the spot you upgrade on if you can), Saad just replaces him.

Somebody will definitely give him a contract I'd think.
My guess is that Colorado and Edmonton are the top two destinations considering that they're contenders and have the elite talent to boost his value, also the Bowman connection with Edmonton.

The Oilers were rumored to have a top 9 forward high on their priority list, well here's one for relative free which would allow them a lot of options to spend the allocated space elsewhere.

The growth projections are not as a massive as they might seem. The cap has artificially been held back because of covid. But all of that is now behind the NHL. At $6.7M in revenue under the old rules the cap ceiling would be in $105-110M already for next year. Much of that prediction you find optimistic is already baked in. It is mostly about trying to get to normal in an orderly way.

Again, even in the global financial crisis, by far the worst financial situation in my lifetime, growth still happened. In fact it averaged close to 5% over a three year period. To get to $120M from where we are you only need to have growth average around 1.5-2% if they go back to the same rules. I suspect that they will modify them somewhat to reduce escrow but 2.5-3% growth gets you very close to that number. If the Canadian rights are anywhere close to what is being speculated that would be almost automatic.

We could easily replicate or do worse than the 2008 crisis, and the only reason there was a 100k “increase” in the cap that year is that they used the 5% escalator clause - revenues did shrink and the “real effective” salary of players (when factoring in inflation) did decrease. This was after a similar run of massive % increases year-over-year. While I do suspect that the baked-in increases due to covid recapture will similarly prevent a decrease even in a very bad scenario for the economy, the increases (and the gigantic rumoured rights deals in the wake of a hypothetical economic cataclysm) are very much still in question. Some GM’s are choosing to operate conservatively given the circumstances.

How I'd stack it, assuming Skinner is gone.

Henrique-Mcdavid-Hyman
Podz-Drai-Arvidsson
Saad-RNH-Brown
Kapanen- Philip-Perry
Janmark

With RNH coming on as of late, giving him a big scoring winger at 3C would really bolster our depth. And that top line was really good in the LA series last year before Henrique got hurt, so give them another run.

Bruh.... just accept they robbed us, Holloway is already a central backbone of their offense (on a measly $2.3M cap-hit) and Broberg while not without issues has acclimated pretty darn well to his enhanced role.

The Blues would be in the Anaheim / Nashville range of the standings if they didn't get those 2 off of us for next to nothing, it greatly improved the quality of their team.
Lol at this. Robbed us? No
