Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

It’s crazy for McDavid to attend this shithole corporate tournament organized and reffed by the same trashy sell-out organization that endangers his safety on a nightly basis and gives him no respect whatsoever. Maybe if 100% of profits were going to charity or something? But no, this is a corporate rip-off. The NHL sucks ass.

It's funny. I was talking to someone today about the hope that Klingberg does so well that we could actually walk away from Bouchard. If we had the ability to make the assessment, I would love to part ways with his inconsistency, lack of focus, lack of compete, and inopportune f-ups. I would try to trade him to Buffalo for Owen Power. We can't afford two big defence contracts amongst Nurse and Bouchard.

And then, later, this post shows up:

One can dream.

Smart move.
I would like to see some Oilers players sit out. I dont give a rats ass about that tournament.
It means absolutely nothing.

Risking an injury (or not having that time to heal up) is just dumb IMO.
I agree, but on the other side of it, I'd like to see Canada return the shun in the selection process for the next Canadian Olympic team, if that's how things play out.

I assume there are guys on each of these teams that have some level of pride playing for their country regardless of how arbitrary this 'World' tournament seems.

A fan blogger writing about a fan Twitter user speculation is worth about as much as the digital space it’s written on

Bouchard is obviously a very talented offensive player. No doubt about that.
The problem with Bouchard is that his lows are so low that the team is better off not having him on the ice.
That level of ineptitude can show up at any time as well.
You would think that after 300+ NHL games he would have at least leveled that out a bit so that the bad Bouchard wasnt such a massive dropoff from the good Bouchard.
Every player has warts so this is part of who this player is and it has to be factored into the Bouchard equation long term.

Its one thing to pay $3.9M for him (this season) but long term near (or worse yet possibly over) $10M?
That is a big risk IMO.

I think you right about the pride thing.
That being said...how pissed would we be if a core Oilers player gets injured and it affects their SC aspirations?
This tournament should have been held after the season ends.

I have always enjoyed best on best tournaments. Going to the Canada Cup in 1984 was a highlight for me. But I have almost no interest in this one. It seems completely contrived.
Yeah Canada Cups had actual nations and were held at a time of year that an injury wouldn’t screw you for the playoffs. I loved the Canada Cup in 84. They had some games in Halifax which was awesome.

Hmmm, I think you will have to point out the part where it was mentioned as fact. Best to reread the original post.

Very well articulated.

As much I've pushed for the Oilers to sign Klingberg, I wouldn't expect him to come in and be a top 4 guy. Even if he returns to his form in Dallas, he was a defensive liability in the lineup and prone to way more mistakes than Bouchard.

I shouldn't be surprised that the dude hasn't even played a game yet and fans are already penciling him in Bouchards spot.

Okay.

It would be great to be able to run a simulation with Bouchard “walked away from” and see how many fans cry about the lack of production from the back end the following season while he produces elsewhere.

Yet he could also flame out without McDrai inflating his numbers, his numbers aren’t great this year and we already have Nurse’s huge contract. 20M for two defenceman isn’t ideal especially when we’re paying 30M for McDrai.

This is absolutely true. Sometimes I wonder if when players are traded away (or sign offer sheets) they realize that shite is real and they had best improve. Consider...Dubnyk, Holloway, MacLeod. I could totally see him realizing that he needs to be more consistent if he was ever traded. Which is partly why I would trade him to Buffalo.

Bouchard is interesting. He is a good player and will be good but also 8+ is too much for him and this season, a contract year we should be seeing the best Bouchard has to offer and we are getting wet fart effort from him. Helpful to us lowering his number, but you some team will offer 8 plus to him so signing him for less will be tricky.

Yup, this is going to be a tough decision, personally I wouldn’t give him a dime over 7, and definitely wouldn’t give a NTC either

We have one of the best defensive systems and buy-in across the whole league. The hope is that Klingberg recaptures his physical ability, and then meshes in our system. Look at how Bouchard performed in the playoffs. He was defensively great. Arguably a better all around D than Ekholm was. Klingberg could do the same.

Imo this isn't even up for debate. He's going to get 10+ aav and with full nmc. I agree it feels risky but it's just inevitable.

Someone back in the thread mentioned us maybe trading him. That would take some other team sending us a similar RD, but I don't see it happening

Walking away from a guy because he's had a down year right after having a dominant playoffs (HOF numbers...) would be one of the worst mistakes this org has ever made

If he is demanding 10M+ you look at trading him / his rights but otherwise you take the good with the bad and move on.
