We spent $1.75M in cap on this player, plus directed the time and effort our pro scouting, management, and presumably medical staff for... no clear high upside. It's a total waste of resources if the player ends up only a bottom pairing defender.

Carolina is a pretty soft team. Adding Hall and Rantanen doesn't really add to it. The problem they have is center depth and goaltending. This trade doesn't help those areas.

Sure, that's not really their issue. Last year they couldn't generate enough offense away from Svechkinkov, Aho and Javis, this makes they more offensively deep.

They're much better today, but they don't scare me.
