Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

This is what makes Anaheim such a good trade partner IMO. Skinner doesn't need to be the starter there, they have Dostal for that. OTOH, they have zerrrrro good goalie prospects beyond that. Their closest is a 21-year-old with a 2.92 GAA in the AHL. Everyone else has comically bad numbers no matter what league they're in or how old they are.

Dostal + Skinner has the potential to be a very good tandem for a lot of years and maybe under a different goalie coach Stu finds another level. Gibson doesn't help them address the future, and will go back to being a boat anchor of a contract if this season turns out to be a mirage for him. So why not flip him for picks and a younger backup-type if you can? It's a no brainer for both sides.
We busted a third round pick on a goalie when Calgarys 7th round pick who was a goalie is now kicking Skinners ass.

Can Vegas fit Marchand in if Karlsson isn't on LTIR? And if not, will Vegas' discussion with Boston before inevitably announcing that Karlsson will be injured until game 1 of the playoffs be used as evidence of their contravention of the cap? (Who am I kidding.)
What would they even give Boston for Marchand. They do not have a first this year or next. Their seconds, like the Oilers, would be basically like early thirds from 8 years ago. And its not like they have a lot of really good prospects.

They always find a way. Not sure what Kelly has on the other GM's, but the returns other teams accept is usually underwhelming. Often they get a get a player with a NMC who will only go to one of two teams, and Vegas is usually one of them.

I know he's still not perfectly proven, but man if you could flip Skinner for Luukkonen, I think this team would be much better for it. I think there's a really solid goalie there on a very bad defensive team.

Luukkonen's age, cap hit and overall health is perfect for what this team needs. His trade protection doesn't kick in for 2 yrs as well, if you want to switch directions

It really is something. Add in that the league seems to do what ever it takes to make this possible. The Lehner decision for example was inexplicable.

Look at the breakdown from the video a few pages back. Facing the same quality shots Gibson might actually have allowed more goals against than Stu this year. They have similar weaknesses
I did. He used two microstats. There are a lot more to consider. He also mentioned high danger chances. Stu is okay when it comes to high danger chances- where he sucks hard is the low to medium danger chances. The point shots along the use or wrist shots from distance that are not considered “high danger”. Also, Woodley looked at Microstats- but if you are looking at the big picture- Stu is still 54th in goals saved above expected.

He's actually been more consistsnt than dostal. Not as many lows as I posted this morning
I'm all onboard the get a goalie train.
The problem is... I'm not sure Gibson is good. He's had giant stretches now of just... not being very good. He never seems to really outplay the goalies on his own team.

This feels like Jack Campbell all over again.
Buying cause he's the only thing available... and praying it works.

One fear I would have with Gibson is that he seems injury prone to me. I don’t think I would be comfortable with a Pickard tandem in the playoffs.

I honestly wouldn’t mind both Gibson and Vejmelka lol. Probably being greedy.

That being said, I would be surprised if we acquired either.

Injuries might of been an excuse to sit out when your team and motivation is shit

The Oilers with a tandem of Gibson and Vejmelka won't lose many games. That's a nice 1A and 1B.

Vejmelka would help with any risk factor Gibson comes with

The Oilers need an upgrade on Pickard, not Skinner.

When was a starting goalie replaced at the TDL?

Sounds like alot of ppl are conveniently ignoring how much significance has been reported about the Oilers lockeroom. Look no further than Bos or Van if you don't put much stock in that.

Pulling the plug on Skinner now after being one game away from the SC would be a massive blow to the current dynamic they've spent years fixing.

He can always be replaced in the summer

I recall a starting goalie being added to a team back in 2006. ;)

But seriously, adding a guy to tandem with Skinner would be ideal, but the fact that we heard about how Campbell being sent to the AHL was a relief to Skinner makes me worry that they basically can't add anyone to tandem with him. Seems like it needs to be a guy like Pickard who is a clear backup.

I think the team finally getting decent goaltending would be a boost to the locker room. I do agree that we should keep skinner until this summer but I think as a 1B.

The goaltending the Oilers are getting from Stuart is more of a distraction than any good team dynamics the Oilers are building. 0.900 is the best he's giving to the Oilers who's one of the best defensive team in the league. If there's a clear upgrade on both Stuart and Pickard to be made at the deadline, they should pull the triggers. Good goalies and good deals aren't going to sit around for the Oilers to decide in the summer.

Also, Stuart on the team, you run the risk of him asking Knob to play him more regardless if he's good or not.

The only reason to not trade him right now should be because he just recently had a kid.

Pretty much nailed it, we’re fawning over a guy who has been largely shit for 5 years and has a large cap hit… shows what kind of position we’re in right now.

I heard the same thing about Blackwood.

Ignore all the stats and just watch Skinner and Gibson. They aren’t close ability wise.

Context is King.

One team is at the bottom of the well defensively. One is at the top

How does this not ring in anybody's ears?

You typed that al out and still felt the best thing to do was hit post, eh? Yikes
Well yeah, my thumb hit that red button at the end.

You typed that you have some secret wizard who says Gibson isn't "all that" and wanted to PM a mod over it lollll. Not even a trade rumor.

Has Bob mentioned anything about Gibson?

To be fair, Gibson played a lot of years under Eakins. We all saw the impact that has on Team D.
