The Oilers spent 10 million dollars to “upgrade” the forwards (Arvidsson, Skinner, and retaining Henrique) and not any one of these guys is on pace to hit 20 goals.

Now apparently we need to spend even moar! On top of the 4 mill total bill on Connor Brown this year.

They pissed away Broberg and Holloway for f*** all and now we are supposed to make OK with this Dollar Store budget goaltending tandem.

Send Henrique’s ass back to Anaheim or Arvidsson out if that’s what it takes to make Gibson’s salary work. They are not bringing nearly enough to the table.
The bottom 6 pisses me off so much man. We got older, slower and less productive for absolutely no reason. Like Skinner was bought out by freaking BUFFALO because he couldn't hack it there. Remember, they have plenty of cap space and would love a good mentor for their young guys, but even they decided he wasn't it. Henrique was demolished at 5v5 as 3C last playoffs. Janmark and Brown were 4th liners last year who were elevated to 3rd line this year. Nuge has fallen off a cliff. What are we spending money on exactly? Mcdrai to carry us like the the pre 2022 Oilers? Even in 2022 a healthy Kane was much more productive than our 4th most productive fwd right now.

Can you provide a 1000 foot scouting report? Just going by numbers (gasp! I said I would never do that!) he seems to have done with a rebuilding PHX team last year, but has really struggled with the mountain air... any ideas what gives?
He got injured and lost him mom this year, so I think there's been a few things.

I honestly don't think they're going to bring in another goalie. I personally would trade Skinner for Gibson at 50% (Skinner makes 2.6 and Gibson would be 3.2, so not a huge difference). But I don't think a goalie is in the cards by TDL day.

I get it. But I think Gibson is on a whole different talent level than Skinner. Frankly, I think a healthy Gibson on his game his still a top-10 goaltender. That's just me. But I would also note that Skinner is a sub 900 goalie on one of the best defensive teams in the league. And Gibson is on maybe the worst defensive teams in the last decade. That matters.

Anyways, if Gibson ever gets traded, and he blows the doors of his next team, remember me as one of the guys who said, "I told you so.";)
It does matter. You can't just list a guys stats when the teams are polar opposites. ANA allows liek the most chances per game. It's a hilarious take.

This is the only thing that matters. Do people think Gibson here playing some more games than Pickard (against tougher teams) would have given us more wins?

Do people think Gibson here over SKinner would have given us more wins?

That is up to our subpar scouts. How does he move? How many High Danger chances does he save? You have to watch all of the video on him.

I think he would steal Skinners job, but they would almost equally split the games

Skinner was bought out because he was making significantly more than he should have. If he was making three mill he might still be there.
He's not even worth 3 million right now. He looks like he's completely mailed it in. I'm really hoping that it's just an adjustment period and he comes up huge for us in the playoffs.

I've always been a big fan of Gibson, so I might be a bit overly bullish on him. I do think he would be a no-doubter starting goalie on the Oilers, and I do think the Oilers would have more success with him in net. I wouldn't mind Gibson at 50% sharing the crease with Skinner, but then you're adding an extra 2.2M (Pickard is 1M), and I also would be worried about how well Skinner would do jumping in after Gibson goes on a run.

All this said, I gotta reiterate that I don't think they're looking to upgrade in goal. I really don't think so.

I hear more people complaining that we need a better goalie these days.

Who could we realistically trade for that would be able to force Skinner out of playing any games in the playoffs?

I’m hoping the Oilers ARE looking at goaltending options and are simply running a tight ship so that word doesn’t get out.

It helps no one if media catches wind that the Oilers are looking to shore up goaltending. The Oilers will lose leverage, Skinner’s already mediocre performance may crumble, and it’ll just put us on edge lol

I’m not arguing he’s living up to his contract, I’m just saying he was making significantly more in Buffalo. He was still putting up points worthy of a 3 mill contract for them.

Why are people thinking Reimer can be an upgrade? 😂

Because some are convinced ANYONE is better than that which we have. Regardless of the numbers the goalies have because their bad numbers are based solely on the fact they are playing on a bad team not that the goalie is bad

In what sense? I don't know much about the player outside of his stats and him being a western Canadian guy.
Throughout his career he has openly dealt with the symptoms of what was then-undiagnosed OCD.

Not trashing him in any way as I understand the kind of weight those struggles can have on someone's life. But we're talking about a hockey hotbed market with expectations of winning a Championship. It's not for the faint of heart.

There isn't even a magnifying glass on a piece of paper amount of smoke about obtaining a goalie...which is very alarming

Fxx Skinner. Guy can't accelerate with a puck on his stick, terrible first step, can't stickhandle , can't pass, has no second effort, literally coasts through shifts. It's just sad to watch. This is what he is. He knows the fit isn't good. He is just here to get paid at this point, to hang on long enough to get to the playoffs which might boost his value for next season. Get rid of him ffs.

Ingram would be a good buy low guy IMO.
You don't get rid of one of the 2 goalies we have to bring in a career minor leaguer who's hit a hot streak. The minute Ingram gets back to being a no name, we will be screaming again.

You bring in experience and a legit proven goalie who has shown a history of good goaltending under Tough circumstances.

Varlamov or Quick, would look great behind our defensive system.
