The opportunity will not get better than now with a bunch of new mega contracts kicking in over the next few years.

I recognize that it's generally a bit silly to get mad about imaginary moves we all make up on here, but I will be so immensely frustrated if the Oilers don't sell everything not nailed down to load up the roster for this run.
This is the year 100 percent

Now start calling everybody a few times a week for a good tandem option for Skinner. I give Picks credit, but I do not want the same duo for another run. This years run is going to be tougher than last year.

Demko unhappy in Vancouver now too. It’s all falling apart.

Oilers literally killed two franchise eras with playoff victories over the Flames and Canucks.
Where you see this? Guy has been brutal since returning. Think he has played 10/11 games now.

I wonder about trading Skinner to a team like Carolina for Jesper Fast.

He's currently on LTIR, so you could add him to the LTIR pool while getting rid of Skinner's cap. The pro for Carolina would be getting a player that they drafted and can actually play in the lineup.

And Skinner gets to stay on a playoff team.

Unless fast returns during the playoffs, we gain nothing but the skinner cap space

It is quite amazing how closely the Canucks collapse is following the Calgary model. They've already accomplished losing to the Oilers in second round, are in the process of nailing the "hire hard-ass coach who wins Jack Adams in bumper year, miss playoffs next year" arc, and are well on the way to ostracizing all their star players and having to trade most of them in the offseason.

Wouldn't be all that surprised if both the coach and GM are terminated in the offseason as well.

From what Stauffer said, the hunch was correct. Oilers are giving Klingberg a run until the deadline to see if he’s still got it. If he doesn’t, they will go for a top
4 defender.

He also said the defender they may get at the deadline may not be available at the moment

I know Ratmouse Andersson has been discussed and Conroy said he wants to re-sign him but with Calgary fighting for a WC spot, Andersson came to mind first, even though Bob could be talking about anyone.

That's another reason why getting Klingberg makes sense. It's easy to say we should get someone established, who skate and has some physical edge, oh and shoots right. Except, there are fewer sellers than ever these days, and we don't have a lot of futures to compete with on the trade market. This is a massive sellers market and every buyer wants what we want
The fact that Klingberg might solve our issue makes the signing worth it, even if it isn't league minimum.
