Hope we get Klingberg. I love free no risk assets.
I'd be pretty stoked to get him, and I fully admit that he could crash and burn here.

Isn't the ultimate best case is that he kills it in the role, and we can focus on improving another position? The downside is just that we might have to try again for a RD at the deadline

Assuming he comes in as a depth option, I really like the idea of adding Klingberg as a depth option. We've been pretty healthy on the blueline (knock on wood) but if Bouchard is ever injured, our right side is Stecher-Emberson-Brown, with guys like Regula and Kemp as call ups. Going into the playoffs with that is a recipe for disaster.
Honestly I think the Oilers are looking closely at Marcus Pettersson who would be a big boost to the depth, I also wonder about one of the guys in Utah, John Marino (if he would come to Edmonton this time lol) might make a solid fit.

I like it. Test him out. Could be improved after all of his injuries or he goes away. We know Edmonton is still going after a really good dman

What I like about this is the fact they are trying SOMETHING early. Testing the waters. Or we can play Josh Brown a ton lol
Maybe we were playing him to shop him. There must be some bottom feeder who'd like a warm body for 3 years at a decent cap hit.

Well if we win 8-7 it's still a win.
Honestly that's how MacKinnon ran up a big lead in the Art Ross race. His team has had bad goaltending and D, so the team has had to outscore the problems. Meanwhile our team is working on sitting on leads

I wasn't at all a fan of the Bowman hiring when it happened, but the biggest positive on his resume was that he had a track record of finding some under the radar, useful role players that helped his team win.

Since he's been here, he's brought in Emberson (while clearing the Ceci contract), Podkolzin, Kapanen, and now Klingberg. He's quietly improved the depth of this team quite a bit while using next to no cap space and assets. If Klingberg works out, even as a 7th/8th defenceman, I'm going to have to give him and the organization some credit.

I still don't like Stan, but he's done some really good things, Emberson has been a positive replacement for Desharnais (and Ceci being gone is amazing), picking up Podkolzin, claiming Kapanen. I like this bet on Klingberg, I'm curious what bigger moves they're narrowing in on.

What do the folks here think about the idea of Seth Jones assuming he is retained down to say ~$6M?

I haven't watched him close enough to have a read on if he's been bad because he's bad or if it's a product of the environment. Conceptually, taking a guy with his skills package and taking him from a #1 on a terrible team to a #4 on an elite team will open up his game a bit and give him more opportunity to make an impact.

The idea of a Top 4 of Ekholm - Bouchard - Nurse - Jones is extremely enticing to me. All big players, all can score, all can skate. I just don't have a good enough feel on Jone's strengths and weaknesses at the moment to know if it's actually an idea or not.

The how we fit that $6M after next year is another issue as well.

Sincerely, a $6M Seth Jones is a no brainer in my mind, he would be an incredible add at that price on the cap.

I think a pair with him and Nurse would be nasty. You wouldn't be able to get through them.
Plus they could create so much offensively, trying to handle McDavid's Line, Draisaitl's line, with pairs of Ehholm - Bouchard and Nurse - Jones coming with them, look the f*** out.

Both are good at sneaking up ice to find soft spaces in the o zone to score too.

D zone could be a little adventurous (possibly), but I think they would tilt the ice so much that it wouldn't be a major concern.
