I wonder if Klingberg might be more of a research tool. Seems like they might still be doing some testing on what kind of partner they believe will be best type to fit with Nurse. They called Brown up and have given him some time with Nurse to see how he responds with a stay at home type, now maybe they go out and make a no risk signing to bring in an adept right handed puck mover to see how that type of player impacts Nurses game.Fabbro is a young ascending player, Klingberg is a much older declining player. I wouldn't count on this guy as anything more than a 3rd pair/2nd PP specialist and even more odd that they'd be pursuing Klingberg because he's pretty much a free asset and not offer a very low pick for the Preds who were waiving Fabbro anyway. I know there was salary considerations but $2.5m was very manageable. Oh well
Anyway, I don't like the idea of a top 4 experiment for Klingberg because there's very little upside to it with it being highly likely that he's well past done as a top 4 Dman and while the Oilers are pretty much locked in to a playoff spot they're in a dogfight for the division and possible Presidents Trophy so I don't think experimenting with a top 4 D with a guy who is a real longshot is the best of ideas.
If he's signed as depth or as a rotation guy then I'm fine with it but if this is a plug and play with Nurse I really don't like it.

So it could just be them trying to get more data for making a decision on who they want to target for a defensive upgrade.
I've been wondering if they were the same guy tooMcTony updates thigs quick lol. Seems like he has the radio on a lot.

Fabbro and Klingberg have the most important things in common though, as a potential option for our top 4 RD. And sure Fabbro has a brighter future and Klingberg is only a short term option, but I'm looking at this up coming playoffs first and foremost. Also, of course we missed the boat on Fabbro, while Klingberg is right here for the taking, and most assume that it would be for a low enough dollar so that we can still make a run at someone better at the deadlineFabbro is a young ascending player, Klingberg is a much older declining player. I'm glad Philp is up, I'm still really hoping for a look for Savoie and Rodrigue before Feb 12th.
Fair, but honestly if one of those 2 go down, you need to know if he can handle himself and this window until Feb 12th is a good time to "try" guys imo.Agree about Savoie if their is an injury. Otherwise we already have too many guys up (Jeff Skinner wasting away on the bench). Rodrigues, I honestly don't see it. After Pickards performance and Skinner getting a shutout, I think what we have currently is better.
I can't see Rodrigue up this year - simply due to waivers.I'm glad Philp is up, I'm still really hoping for a look for Savoie and Rodrigue before Feb 12th.
He has to play 10 games or be on the roster 30 days for the waivers to kick back in. He can come up and start 2 or 3 games and then just go back down.I can't see Rodrigue up this year - simply due to waivers.
That I didn't know. I still think the team won't risk it with us finally 2 points out of the division lead.He has to play 10 games or be on the roster 30 days for the waivers to kick back in. He can come up and start 2 or 3 games and then just go back down.
Thanks man! I appreciate itTo be fair, he's just relaying what the insiders are saying. I don't have the time to always listen to the radio, so I appreciate when @McTonyBrar mentions what they say.
Yeah, that is a concern, but I would be great just to see if, because if he's not an NHL option into next year, move on imo. That I didn't know. I still think the team won't risk it with us finally 2 points out of the division lead.
Props to Tony for confirming this. Unless there is more than one Tony BrarYeah thats me ahahah
LOL that is me dude
For sure. You've gotta give the kiddos a chance eventually, otherwise what's the point of drafting and developing? I don't know how many goalies would put up respectable numbers like his and not have an NHL game yet. I think his play has been not so good lately though.Yeah, that is a concern, but I would be great just to see if, because if he's not an NHL option into next year, move on imo.
That's tough and I've heard that, but these things ebb and flow in the minors. I think it's been a bit of bad luck for him too, no one has been nicked up, so he hasn't gotten those short recalls. For sure. I do too, I was just joking that we are now posting tweets from users here at HFboards. We have become our own source…hahaTo be fair, he's just relaying what the insiders are saying. I don't have the time to always listen to the radio, so I appreciate when @McTonyBrar mentions what they say.
He has had the most success with partners who can outlet the puck- because he is terrible at it. The biggest part of that, though, is the faster you can outlet the puck- the less in-zone defence he has to play (where he can get into trouble)Could be. I honestly don’t know what kind of partner he needs.
I think he has to be able to move the puck well and has to have strong defensive instincts. Probably needs a strong sense of composure. While that sounds pretty simple and straightforward. Thats a difficult player to acquire. Especially on the right side.
