Dreger think if it's not the Leafs (don't know why Klingberg would rehash his failure in that market), the likely front runners for Klingberg is Edmonton. That's a pretty juicy rumour.

Also, Klingberg has been skating hard the last couple weeks in anticipation of coming back... interesting.
I agree with that assessment. We have the obvious glaring hole in RD

Toronto in the mix is clearly just tossed in there to pander for clicks. If he signed there and it ended bad, he would look really dumb. The obvious play is to try a new spot

Insider trading. According to Chris, the sense league wide it would be JT Miller move. We might not see moves until this domino drops.

Conroy told Lebrun that he has no interest in trading Andersson and wants to extend him.

Also, interesting that Dallas that Dallas's plan is to accrue cap space like us, then us LTIR on Seguin so they can add additional. Just like our situation, so atleast we can point to that if Bettman tries to give us the ol screwjob.

Yeh you always have to take Toronto's inclusion in rumors with a grain of salt. There is alot of pandering to that market for clicks and views. Like the "rumor" that Patty Kane was going there. Or the "rumor" that Skinner was going there. Considering that I'd put Edmonton at the top of the list of suitors which is extremely interesting.

Klingberg and Toews at league min. Add an upgrade to Pickard and we are set

Imagine we do that, both deals near League minimum, we'd still have a boat load to spend in UFA. It's almost like were running out of roster spots for all the possible additions this team could explore.

Tbh I am also wary of Edmonton included in rumors as we are a click target too lol. But in our case it just fits too good on paper. The only issue I see is that he might not get tons of PP time. He's not taking Bouchard's spot. But then again, if he wants all the top minutes and opportunities, he'd have to focus on the bottom feeders. If he wants to jump on a contender, he's will be gifted some chances but he's going to be a depth player

PP2 has a spot for him. Although I see Klingberg as a player chasing a paycheck, not a championship.

Yeh I considered the PP aspect of it as well. We can't exactly offer up Bouch's spot. And PP time turning into points is likely Klingberg's best chance at a deal. Although I wonder how many contenders need a PPQB at this time, that spot on alot of teams may already be accounted for. Maybe Klingberg's best chance at a continued career is showing he can be effective at 5v5... we can offer that oppurtunity in either a 2nd or 3rd pairing role, whatever appropriate for his level of play.

There is that. Whoever tries to sign him this summer will look very deeply at his numbers. If he gets a ton of PP points but is lax defensively no one will jump to get him. If he comes here and gets limited scoring but it's mostly 5 on 5 and his D is solid, a lot of teams will be after him. Even if they want a PP QB, everyone already knows he can do that

Are they? They’re tracking for a 10 point decrease from last season right now.
I seen a quote from STL that their mindset is that the are in a rebuild. Not tear down obviously. They do not want to stay in this middle spot.

Klingberg agreed to come here a few years ago. I forgot why it didn't happen lol. EDM was giving him good $$ too.

Was reported Holland was working on a wacky plan to sign Klingberg then have Montreal retain on the contract. So cap space + hair brained plan is probably what killed that from happening.

Klingberg is not top4
klingberg of the past few years isn't top 4. The hope is that after his surgeries he can recapture what he had in Dallas. In Dallas he was even top pair. I don't think he would be that good now but he might be a decent #4. Nurse has been pretty good with Stecher, who isn't top 4. Maybe Nurse can get the best out of Klingberg.

To be clear, I don't think the odds are great. It's not like I'm picking Klingberg over Parayko or Andersson. It's just that we can add Klingberg right now, for small cap hit and no assets lost. So it seems obvious.

Fabbro wasn't top 4 either, until he was

yuck.

One guy hasn't played in 18 months and one hasn't played for 14 months.

If you think they'll jump right in to a stretch drive and playoff run, you'll be disappointed.

These guys need a full training camp and half a season to get up to speed.

Of all fanbases, we should know this since this literally just happened with Connor Brown.

You're right, but my point is they aren't going to just tank, the Oilers gave them an opportunity to avoid that. If they didn't have Holloway and Broberg they'd be last in the league

I like Derek Ryan as a person and player, and appreciate what he's brought these past few years. But we know what we have in him at this point, a smart/responsible player with very limited impacts on the ice that will only get worse with age and fatigue at this stage of his career. We need to see if Philp can be an upgrade. There's a time and place for prospects to show what they are worth and replace players we have, that time is now for Philp.
