I just realized Stecher and Brown played less than 7 minutes last night
And did you notice Brown was trusted for :57 PK minutes in a 1-0 game. This was a playoff style game. A good gage of how Knoblauch views his d-corp. Knoblauch has consistently rolled a top 4 d with toi and to manage critical situations. They're going to add a substantial top 4 d-man with the question of handed-ness and player type: puck mover or cycle breaker, home plate goal suppressor.

Glad to see Knoblauch actually has common sense. I don't think he will enjoy a John Klingberg signing. He likes his defence to be decent on defence and offence if they want to play top 4 minutes

I still find it rather confusing but:
$1M + Kane OR $6.2M + Kane out until playoffs?

We have money to spend. Just HOPEFULLY the money is spent on the right players and not bags of shitters.

This is what I would have guessed before the kerfuffle. But the whole thing had me bamboozled. I hope that this is the definitive statement because anything else seems punitive.

Klingberg was actually good during his time in Dallas and be fine here as a #6. The issue is he would be taking minutes from Emberson and Emberson shouldn't be playing higher up. Not yet at least

Knoblauch's been pretty consistent in managing his d-corp deployment moving off Emberson early out of a 2 RD responsibility. They signed Dermot and played him on his off-shooting side over Stetcher to start the year - clearly see him as a #7 for a playoff d-roster. Still interesting to see them deploy a big, physical cycle breaker Brown in last night's game with confidence to give him more PK toi than Nurse (1 second haha).

Klingberg's a lottery ticket when he can return and contribute to any NHL team this season following major surgery. Very hard to gage Edmonton's interest, if any, but they will aggressively explore all avenues to upgrade this d-corp. Shouldn't surprise anyone that the Oilers get sprayed widely with all of prospective d options that may or may not be available. This is the big move to come.

Skinner has more value than Georgiev who is terrible, Colorado had to add to get them to take Georgiev back, San Jose didn't need another goalie.

Oilers management cannot get anything done with goaltending and probably never will, they are clueless generally but about goaltending especially. It's been 10 years of the same laundry list of excuses and multiple suitable options come and go to other teams.

We could have had Askarov, we could have had Blackwood, etc. etc. There's always an excuse why they can't get it done.
Value would've been irrelevant the same way it was in the Georgiev deal. Blackwood was the 'upgrade' that predicated the trade. If the Oilers were making that deal, it would have been Skinner going to San Jose, who they would have no interest in.

I don't understand the Askarov bit either. Really? We could've spent a fortune on a goalie prospect and immediately paid him for next season without playing a game? How's the Spencer Knight contract looking in Florida right now? That's where that can go pretty quickly if the rookie isn't prepared to handle the workload straight out of the gate. Or are we basing his expected performance on the 11 NHL starts to date?

The two examples you've presented and Colorado trading a once promising prospect for Scott Wedgewood. That's the extent of the young goalie market this season.

How about we sit back and enjoy the fact that this is the best the team has looked in January dating back decades? And stop pretending that every rumored goalie is THE upgrade opportunity that our management clearly slept on.

And his name is Alexander.

Everyone come boo Greg Wyshynski. He's stirring shit up by questioning if McDavid will sign here. "When Draisaitl signed we all thought McDavid would and I don't believe that to be the case."

Yeah, because Lauren would launch a heavily curated clothing brand with OEG and then announce a new bar going just down the street from Rogers with plans to leave next summer lol.

Connor's here for the long term. The only question is how much, though I think Leon playing like this is going to make him feel a little better about their salaries being somewhat similar. We can deal with a pair of $14M contracts starting in 2026, but we won't be able to ice a competitive team if Connor waits for a $100M cap and a possible $20M max contract.

This guy knows less than nothing. Just trying to generate clicks. I really question what a random sports writer from NJ (who has been actively anti Oiler in the past) knows about McDavids thought process

Wyshynski, even though I hate him, is smart enough to know how his bread is buttered.

No better way to drive up exposure than barfing out some nonsense that incenses Oiler fans while concurrently being red meat for Leaf and Nuck fans.

"Puck daddy" has disliked the Oilers ever since Gretzky called his favorite team a Mickey Mouse organization when he was a young fan. He takes every opportunity to troll Oilers fans and get hits from the attention a large fan base provides.

These types of business can be run from anywhere and quite frankly i doubt the McDavids will be involved in the day to day operation of the restaurants.

I would use these as an indicator of McDavid signing or not. I think McDavid has been pretty transparent, he wants to win and will go where ever has the best chance. The team needs to makes sure EDM still poses the best chance to win.

Wyshynski was the same guy who was shocked the Oilers signed Draisaitl to an extention, throwing out wacky theories like he was gonna go to Boston for some reason

also, he suggested he could sign in SJ LOL

this guy has absolutely ZERO connections and says a ton of nonsense for clicks

He's just a dip shit, he's trying to be the Skip bayliss of hockey, which just makes him a tool anyway, I'm glad Sportsnet turfed him

That’s more Matthews than Mcdavid. He’ll sign for a fair 8 year deal.

A writer for ESPN says enough. Their website has never known much about Hockey. I very much doubt this guy is following McDavid's career, his pressers, what he's said about the market, etc etc. He read the Draisaitl situaiton all wrong, and now he's doubling down on being a moron.

A comparable trade would've been replacing Georgiev with Skinner, a significant forward prospect and a high pick. It's that simple.
I’m not the biggest Skinner fan in the world. But this is just wrong. Skinner would have way more value that Georgiev. Georgiev is a cap dump with negative value. Skinner is a young goalie who has seen certain levels of success in his young career and has played or outplayed his current cap-hit. These two players are not the same at all.
