Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Where's The Beef?

I think this is very emblematic of this board, cause of your familiarity with the home team you see all the weaknesses and foibles, so it's a glass half empty perspective for us and a glass half full for strong opposition teams cause you don't know them in as great of detail.

Also while Vegas is known for making some extraordinary deals, we are better positioned capwise to add at the deadline then Vegas is.
Until Stone’s annual LTIR stay.

Not really sure what you mean honestly.

I think currently Vegas would be more likely than not to beat the Oilers in a playoff match up. I think their coaching, defensive core and I think they just know how to beat the Oilers makes it a tough matchup for us.

Furthermore Vegas has more cap space and their management is very aggressive and creative at the trade deadline in previous years, so you know they will be further bolstered up.

With Holland, he generally did one bigger move but didn’t really follow it up with much else. I will be interested to see Bowman does but based on what Stauffer is saying I kind of feel like it will be similar.

I think Oilers can beat Vegas if they can play their A game 4+ times. Feels like the Oilers like to do everything the hard way and often beat themselves. I feel like something has to change with this group or they need multiple upgrades to give themselves a better chance. Guess we will see what happens at the trade deadline and playoffs.

This is the f***ing gospel right here. People only watch the Oilers and make mountains out of mole hill for every mistake and eventually hold it over the player and start pining for some other player after watching them play a good game against us and that is the reference they have and extrapolate that good game and put them a pedestal as the best option to replace our player who they've convinced themselves to hate.

Then you see headlines like this which just throws a salt block on the wound:

Elliotte Friedman says teams feel regret over Canadiens' trade for Alexandre Carrier

Meanwhile we have a GM whose best trait is warming a chair. Not going to win shit with Josh Brown in our starting six.
Our moronic management staff think they are the f***ing smartest in the league yet they didnt even make any single f***ing effort to get a TOP 4 RHD who was available for a very reasonable price. What on earth are these f***ing clowns doing?

Bullshit. Bowman has added great adds to the team. Podz and Kapenen are great additions and were added under our 'chair warming" GM. You can't aquire or be in on EVERY PLAYER that is moved.

I don’t really see the Oilers getting past Vegas at this point unless things currently change or the team makes some upgrades.

1. We don’t produce enough offense outside of McDavid and Draisaitl. McDavid looks off to me this year. I think he’s going to need more help than previous playoffs.

2. Our goaltending just isn’t good enough or consistent enough.

3. We need a Defense upgrade. I don’t trust Nurse to keep his play up in the playoffs. I think we need a pretty significant upgrade.

Will be interesting to see what Bowman does but honestly I don’t think this team is going to do enough,

And I am sure whatever Vegas does at the deadline will be more significant than Edmonton does.
I disagree and I think people panic WAY too much after losses of which have been few and far between.

Furthermore, the Oilers are likely to do something significant. I don't think they planned this offseason around accruing cap space for something minor. It will require some patience to see it come to fruition which is a virtue that most of HFOil does not have as evidenced by many posts in this thread.

If Bowman's best add this year is a 28-point forward, we are f***ed. Even Ken Holland did better than that.

You can't aquire or be in on EVERY PLAYER that is moved.

Okay, how about any one of five? (Carrier, Fowler, Fabbro, Kovacevic, Blackwood). Bowman has been the definition of a chair warmer up to this point.

Season isnt over yet, stop worrying about something that hasn't happened. Bitch about not adding something after the deadline, not before.

None of those adds outside of Blackwood have been acquired by contenders in season and, granted, Blackwood has been great but the Oilers goaltending (if we're using smaller sample sizes) was #1 in the NHL from November 23rd until last night so it hasn't been an issue of late.

I'll give you the Fabbro one though, all Bowman had to do was throw a low pick Nashville's way and he could have had Fabbro. That was a missed opportunity, but we'll just have to wait to see what the plan is at the deadline before judging.

I usually am the one who says that but this was a legit top 4 defender on a terrible team that was right handed. Isn't that what we are looking for? A partner for Nurse?

There was one available who the team saw for 3 games in the first 3 months.

Actually 2. Carrier and Fabbro. Yet they didn't even try

The goal posts are moving now... can you decide which of "there was nothing Bowman could do!!!" and "he WILL do something, pinky swear!" that you're going to argue moving forward here?

Pickard hasn't been #1 in anything. I understand not jettisoning Skinner for Blackwood sight unseen, but we could have easily upgraded on Pickard and been a better club for it.

Kovacevic cost as much as Podz did, that was an easy one a true contender (Jersey) is benefitting from. Fowler has helped revitalize the Blues, they look like a new team. Carrier had plenty of resume from his time in Nashville so his uptick in play shouldn't be a surprise.

Bowman flat out failed to do anything when he had numerous low-cost opportunities to do so. That's on him.

Lol a revitalized blues are what? 5-6 since acquiring Fowler?

Can't accrue cap space if we traded for Fabbro
