It's always possible to get a third team involved also. Full retention would only be a bit over $1m over the next two years as his contract was frontloaded.

But just looking at it briefly, it's possible to do it at full clip and still add the defensive upgrade. It's the summer where things may get a bit dicey. I'd need our resident capologists to fact check though.

As for cost, I'd personally give up a fair bit for Sissons. Calling him a 7 point player is selling him short quite significantly. He's a better offensive player than Bjugstad was. And he'd be a primary PKer who would also be your RH faceoff ace.

Nuge - McD - Hyman
Kane - Drai - Podz
Janmark - Henrique - Brown
Skinner - Sissons - RV
Perry, Kapanen

Strategically it'd give your team four lines that don't require sheltering. They'd be an impossible team to line match. Ready to replace underperforming players or guys who go down with injury.

I just see Derek Ryan as a pretty significant weak area of our roster.

Hes literally on pace for 7 points this year which is incredibly concerning. His lack of offensive production this year is a red flag that I have. When I've watched him he seems to handle the puck like a grenade.

I'm specifically asking if you've been watching him this year because Sissons seems to be pushed down the depth chart when Nashvilles center depth has been non-existent which is another red flag.

Honestly, I think he's coasting on his name recognition and I don't understand why we would give up assets for a player who hasn't been any better than Ryan to this point and I'm not a particularly big fan of Ryan.

$$$$$$$$$$

The cap is fugasi.

Kulak makes 2.75M.

Matheson Is 4.88M but can be retained down for this year and next. If you wanted you could get him for 2.44M next year or even get a 3rd team down to 1.22M.

Add in that the Oilers have 3.5M in deadline cap, Evander Kane potentially on LTIR (5M). I wouldn't be surprised if we move out Jeff Skinner (3M) and you can have like 11.5M available at the deadline.

I'm hoping the Oilers pull off a move similar to what Toronto did when they grabbed McCabe.

I think the main reason I'd avoid Sissons is the term on his deal.

The team is finally leaving some spots open on the 4th line to try out some players and they've got Podkolzin and Kapanen out of it.

If you're looking to improve the 4th line, give me a cheap rental. The days of being stuck with overpaid veterans on the 4th line are hopefully over.

I was listening to one of the eastern radio stations on Iheartradio while I was working(for noise in the back) and they were running down players they expected to move and Matthieson's name came up and they mentioned that they heard Edmonton has been looking at him for awhile but money was an issue.

If the oilers are after Matthieson(which I still do not like) Kulak will need to go back the other way to help off set some of Matthiesons contract
I’m a big Matheson fan but losing kulak is counterproductive

His shots are still more to the outside as he shoots from everywhere as I said. He’s a volume shooter who shoots from everywhere just like this chart shows.
No question he is a volume shooter. NHL edge gives a clearer picture. 17 of his 78 shots would be from areas considered "outside".

Wait but why Kulak? Find a way to offload Jeff Skinner if possible

I read somewhere that Stauff said that we were looking at Trent Frederick?
Maybe here?

Seems fun but I don't get it

The hint seems to be that it would be Jeff Skinner straight across for Frederic. Is this just Bob's fantasy or would Boston actually do this?

They're just stealing my idea from like a month ago.

They might think about it, they're desperate for more offense

Could give them a bump to their PP and give us some much needed grit in our bottom 6.

Ottawa
I lived in Kingston for two years without a car. I also commuted to both TO and Ottawa regularly. What you are describing is casual travel not commuting. Via from Toronto to Ottawa is a complete crapshoot at the best of times, but it is definitely not a viable option for going to games regularly. The average trip is about 4 1/2 hours but it can easily be 6 with any bad luck. (This is roughly how long it takes to drive if the weather is decent.) No one is going to do this to go to a hockey game on any regular basis.

I understand that Highway 2 can be bad at times especially around Red Deer but nothing like the roads between Toronto and Ottawa on any regular basis. Snow squalls and freezing rain are far more common than really bad weather between Edmonton and Calgary. (I don't think the David Thompson is a natural route to take to go to a hockey game). Plus you need to deal with getting out of Toronto. The traffic until the other side of Oshawa is far worse than anything you will ever see on the QE2. If the weather is acting up at all the 401 becomes a parking lot.

The other issue you have is that the Leafs dominate Ontario hockey until you get to at least Kingston and then you are starting to get to Hab's territory. Montreal is even worse. They only care about the Habs period!!!!! When I was in Kingston no one I knew really cared about the Sens. If they were going to make a trek to see hockey they were either heading to Toronto or to Montreal.
As someone who lives in Ottawa, you're right. No one comes in from out of town to see Sens games unless it's Leafs or Habs fans, and the Sens are playing them. It's hard to get people in Ottawa to go unless they're winning, and even them sometimes. It's just not that kind of sports town for whatever reason. Perhaps a downtown arena will help, because that arena is way out there. I used to live in Kanata, and going to a game was pretty easy, but if you live in centretown, or good forbid, the east end, it is a crazy trek, with really bad traffic.

Brock Nelson would be ideal, he can go resign with the Island after.

If Nelson is not available Trent Frederic would be great, but is he even available?

I seriously think we need another Centre. I believe we will add another Centre.
