I hope Philp keeps progressing and is given a serious look.
In time I think he gets some consideration. But unless there's a key injury, I think he spends the rest of this session in Bakersfield. In regards to Skinner, I think he needs to be playing with a center who has some offensive instincts.

Kosko played for a worst team, sure. So let's look at GsaX, and I know you love that stat. Same years from before:

Kosko:
-6.8
-10.2

Stu:
+6.8
+2.0
Okay- nice job of picking out stats. Props. Skinner is better than Kosko - but Kosko was a backup. What I find interesting is that Stu seems to have hit his career best already and has been getting progressively worse.

Skinner:
2024/25: -5.9
23/24: 2.0
22/23: 6.8

We definitely didn’t pay Kosko to be a back up lol.

Well I have a theory on that, but no one wants to buy it if they are in Anti-Stu mode. Do you honestly think Stu has gotten worse though? Ignore the stats for just a second. Go purely off eye.

If only we would have drafted that sure fire stud goalie Wallstedt

Oh wait

Don't get me started--I tossed my toys out of pram when that traded happened and Munzenberger comes out of uni this summer. We have until August 15th to sign him or we will have traded Wallstedt for nothing! If you were on this site when the trade happened and the Wild drafted Wallstadt--you may remember my rants--

Munzenberger is a legitimate prospect with the way he's been playing this season. Bourgault was turned into Jarventie and Podkolzin, too. Also, Rodrigue, who would've been splitting development time with Wallstedt is having himself a pretty decent upward trajectory himself and probably isn't far from breaking into NHL minutes.

I don't get the fascination with Wallstedt. To be honest, anyone still complaining that we didn't draft him shouldn't be taken seriously. You bring up a lot of good points.

1. Rodrigues has been better with a 8-5-2 record, 2.53 GAA and a 0.923 sv%. Wallstedt this year has a 0-2 record with 4.09 GAA and a 0.843 sv% in the NHL and a 5-6-1 record with a 3.77 GAA and a 0.874 sv%.

2. Wallstedt is now 4 years into his contract. This is the last year of his ELC and then his contract is increasing to 2.2M next year. The wild might have to move off him from him at that cost.

3. We still might have something in Jarventie. Might be a long shot but he's had good numbers when healthy.

4. Podkolzin (pick we acquired from the deal with Ottawa) has been an absolute stud for us.

5. We traded back and have Munzenberger in the system who is looking more like a legit prospect.

6. This wasn't a top 10 pick. Teams are lucky when someone outside the top 20 even becomes a player. I don't get why all the hate for Bourgault who was the BPA to many rankings at the time.

I am LAUGHING at this Canucks drama right now. The rumours around lil' Petey and Miller are hilarious. What an embarrassing org.

Wonder what rumours are out there as to who will get traded first and for what return?

I know it's not an Oilers rumour but it will impact whether the Oil win in 5 or 4 if they meet in the playoffs again.

Going purely off eye test- I honestly do. I think he has huge struggles reading the play and anticipating the play. For example- when the puck moves from behind the net to the front- he is so fixated at what is happening behind the net that when the puck goes out front- he doesn’t move out to the top of the crease and set for the high danger shot. He also has lapses where he just does t anticipate a shot and isn’t set. His lateral movement also seems to be getting worse.

My theory: his first year in the league he still had many of the habits Sylvain Rodrigue instilled. As Schwartz started to coach him full time- he developed Schwartizms including 1) Making yourself as small As possible in net 2) Getting beat in the first 5 shots 3) glove 4) lateral movement.

I also think at times the pressure has gotten to him and he collapses. I would love to see him under the tutelage of Roli- who was instrumental in Gibson’s career early on (when he was good). When he was on ched during the playoffs- Roli made a comment on how he hates the RVH and he helps goalie come out of it quickly vs being locked into it.

Me too. Meanwhile Calgary can fluke into drafting a guy like Wolf and the Sharks can pull a trade out of their butt to get Askarov. Meanwhile, Edmonton is the NHL's largest goalie graveyard and Dustin Schwartz is a mortician.
It’s not a fluke. A couple of years ago the flames organization committed into creating a “goalie department”. Oilers are usually way behind in such things and still don’t have one (I think all other NHL teams do now). Our goalie dept begins and ends with Schwartz

I agree on Skinner. Podz does all the little things- but if you’re playing with Draisaitl you need to score

Also what was weird was the Campbell signing. It did show an organization commitment to invest in goaltending, but it was such a bizarre risk. The guy had so small sample body of work and any deep dive into his stats had red flags all over the place.

Even then, I'd say he was a good risk to take but not for all that money and term. They just looked at the save percentage and a couple good playoff games and inked him. When it comes to goaltending our organization just doesn't spend time or care to the decision making, or non-decisions. Maybe Bowman changes it but so far in his small sample it's pretty much business as usual.
But they did t even look at his save %. From December to the end of the year the year we signed him- he was putting up horrendous numbers and way below save %. Further to that- his high danger save % wasn’t great and he was middle of the pack on low and mid danger. I also said at the time of signing that he is going to absolutely fail with Schwartz as his coach. Such a bad, bad signing

It’s an assumption you’re making. Sabres bought him out for a reason.
They bought him out because he was making 9M and they had some young players to sign.

Where are you getting 15 goals from? Extrapolate all you want, that isn’t happening. Its like people who think a player scoring in the first game off the season is expected to score 82 goals.

He’s getting less and lessmice time as the season progresses and is playing down the line up. His production is headed toward a big stop (I won’t say decline, because it’s already in that territory). Farcical really.
surely you must be aware that scoring 1 goal in the first game is a much smaller sample size than 32 games? He’s a perennial 25-35 goal scorer. To say he will score 15 is not a gross overestimation

Pretty cool goalie name though….

I wasn’t really part of the draft day histeria over Wallstedt. I found it amusing though. If I had any regret about not drafting the Wall it was over when it was reported that the Oilers avoided him due to possible character or mental issues. Why spend a 1st on an already iffy position when you have reason to believe there are red flags.

I don't think I've ever been more perplexed when it comes to our forwards. To this point, I'm not really sure how set any of our lines are.

At times the RNH-McDavid-Hyman line have been one of the best in the NHL. I'd feel more confident in this line if nuge was more of a threat but it seems like he's taken a step back offensively this year. Do you look at moving nuge further down the lineup and playing someone else with McDavid? Maybe Evander Kane goes into that spot when he returns.

The Podkolzin-Draisaitl-Kapanen has been a good story but I'm not sure you want two bottom 6 guys strapped to Draisaitl in the playoffs. I think Podkolzin can stay their but the hope is probably Arvidsson coming back in and taking that spot from Kapanen.

The Janmark-Henrique-Brown line hasn't been great like it was in the playoffs. I'm not sure we see them go back to that but they have never been a proper shutdown line like Knob wants. I actually think Henrique is better suites as a LW than a center. He's also too good to be on a 4th line.

Jeff Skinner has been getting 4th line minutes and hasn't found a spot on this team yet. I still think their is a player there but probably not for the Oilers. It's going to be tricky to send him elsewhere as I'm not sure how many playoff teams are lining up for him.

I would think that the Oilers would be looking to trade:

1. Jeff Skinner
2. Victor Arvidsson
3. Adam Henrique

That's 10M in cap space that they could use for other options. You would have to think that they would want a legit top 6 forward to play with Draisaitl and maybe a guy better suited for 3C.

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
Podkolzin-Draisaitl-Marchessault
Kane-Nelson-Brown
Janmark-Philp-McCarron
Kapanen-Perry

That's a lot of work for Stan to do in a short amount of time. It will also look back on Jackson if Bowman comes in and basically hits undo on all 3 guys he signed during the offseason.
Unfortunately video game moves don't get made in real life...

- Janmark Henrique Brown line is good. They have chemistry, keep them together.
- Ardvidsson is going to start producing. He's a good player (if he stays healthy)
- TBH I freaking love adding Brock Nelson. It lets us play Mcdrai together more often. People don't like when we play Mcdrai together, but they have us some games recently.

I’d rather dream he finds his scoring touch. Cause we could use it.
I hope he finds a better game. He holds onto the puck too long and every player on the ice knows he’s not passing. He needs to handshake with the other players on his line and pickup the puck in scoring position.

He carries the puck. When you’re playing with McDavid or Draisaitl they carry the puck. Plus it’s telling that when RNH goes out they elevate Arvidsson to McDavids LW over Skinner and they have a waiver wire winger playing with Draisaitl over Skinner The two superstars probably don’t want a puck carrier on their line. They get who they want on their wings.

Its shocking how unproductive the three of them are. Will be interesting to see if Bowman does anything but I personally can’t really see it. Hopefully they get going after the Christmas break.

1. JSkinner has produced the most offense out of the three. knoblauch doesn’t trust him and Skinner clearly doesn’t fit on the team at the moment. I personally think they needed to give him more opportunity when Arvidsson was hurt. But its hard to really fault the coach. He’s been a liability all year. Good luck trading him in his current state (even if he was willing to move which he probably isn’t).

2. I think Arviddson is fine when hes playing but hes always hurt. I thought he would still be more productive. I think the best thing that they can do is go the LTIR Stone route if he has another week to week or worse injury before the trade deadline.

3. I can’t really believe that Henrique has struggled to the level he has. I really liked the player last year. That being said, he’s still a plus player despite his offensive struggles. At least hes not a liability on the ice. I think hes had some good chances lately. I think he gets going a bit more after the Christmas break.

The team offense and forwards have been a problem this year. It really starts with RNH and the three above. They need to get going.

I don't think the team is down on Henrique nearly as much as some fans are.

He's checking every box you want out of your #3C right now outside a handful more points. Heavy D zone starts, 54% FO, #1 PKer, outscoring opposition at 5v5, outscoring elite comp 7-1, etc.

He's also tied for third on the team in high danger chances at 5v5, so likely a bit more offense will come.

And with the way Janmark is carrying the offense on the third line, I don't think offense on that line is any kind of pressing need either. Both Janmark and Brown have borderline elite 5v5 production from the bottom six right now.

Janmark was carrying the offense early in the year but it’s now Brown haha
