lol you’ve never seen Savoie play in the NHL man so how do you know he’s useless in the bottom six?
Just his skill set is more geared to being a top 6 scorer. I guess to be fair so is Skinners and he’s been on the 3rd line lately, though they haven’t been very effective

im just saying if they’re calling guys up to fill a checking role Drake / Philp are better suited. Skinner can move up into the top 6

I think we should make our 4th line a checking line and have our third line as scoring line as well when Kane is back.

The age thing is a meme that is easy to point to if you put no effort into your research.

Ryan should be sitting though.
The Oilers are pretty old though

Outside of Podkolzin up front and McDavid at 27 going on 28, they have...

Draisaitl - 29
Hyman - 32
RNH - 31
Arvidsson - 31
Skinner - 32
Henrique - 34
Janmark - 31 soon 32
Brown - 30
Ryan - 37
Perry - 39

That's an old team

Defense isn't as old but still...

Ekholm - 34
Kulak - 30
Nurse - 29
Stecher - 30

Even "young" Bouchard is Old Man Bouch.
Emberson is young at least but the young guys are few and far between.

Skinner is young but everybody hates him so he doesn't count.

It's an old team with older skating legs. Granted a lot of those guys are in their early 30s, late 20s but those are late prime if not past prime years for most athletes.

Sucks, but it might be for the best as it stops this stupid persuit of accuring cap while the team's still in flux on the ice. Just run 23 man roster for a few weeks.

As we just saw vs. Columbus , Ryan's been mostly solid all season, but in a b2b situation he had arguably his worst game in an Oilers uniform...

One vet: Cags, Pederson; One kid: Savoie, Jarventie. ect
What is with you guys and calling it "stupid accrual of cap space". That's the only way they'll be able to add a significant player at the deadline for a critical Cup run unless you have a money in money out trade idea.

The same folks that poke fun at cap space accrual are the same folks that will complain if the Oilers are unable to make a significant move at the deadline due to cap issues. Can't have it both ways.

Is signing Mike Hoffman still not a good idea? He seemed to click well with RV and Skinner in pre-season on PP2 and would give us a shooter to give Leon/Nuge a bit more space out there at even strength. I'm also sure he is willing to sign for league minimum now to help us keep accruing space.

He looked better than Janmark has so far.

Hopefully he actually takes off the time he needs to get better. Was speculation something else was wrong with him so hopefully that heals.

Last year he got hurt and it felt like he rushed back so he wouldn’t miss the outdoor game.

In general, seems like the Oilers never take the time off they need to get better. Hopefully players step up with him gone and hopefully ice time gets balanced between 3 lines a bit better.

Oh they are definitely going to rush his healing time. I would be very surprised if McDavid skips the game against the leafs 2 weeks from now.

They don't take the required time b/c the depth usually does jack sh** even with McDavid lol. We aren't Vegas before where Stone+ 1/2 other good guys + 1-2 dmen would be out and still somehow win games or not sink.

Here’s what I’d like to see while McDavid is out:

Skinner-Draisaitl-Hyman
RNH-Henrique-Arvidsson
Podkolzin-Philp-Brown
Janmark-Ryan-Perry

Time for a guy like Henrique to step up.

Sad that injuries will likely cost him his 2nd Art Ross in a row.
I see this as a potential positive. The Art Ross is essentially meaningless compared to a Stanley Cup and this injury allows McDavid to rest and get hungry again.

It also presents an opportunity for the team to get their collective heads out of their ass and play with intensity because their best player isnt there to bail them out offensively.
It also (as some posters have stated) puts Draisaitl on centre stage so he can give at least some validation as to why he is worth $14M per season.

Also...just have a look at McDavids production after he comes back from an injury.
A very motivated McDavid is forthcoming.

Feels like a ton of guys don’t on this team. I think VD had a broken finger and missed one game. Kane played through injuries from December. Lots guys entering the playoffs banged up like Hyman, Draisaitl, McDavid etc

I hope it's a real 2-3 weeks, not a "2-3 weeks until he can play again at 80% to save the organization's butt, then will need some sort of surgery in the future".

With past McDavid injuries they have tended to shoot high when they announce how long he'll be out if anything.

If it's truly 1-2 weeks and he isn't ready on week 2 + 1 day, everyone panics. This way they can just put him in when it makes sense.
