I never said any differently. My only problem with Kostin is that mere months later he was back in town wearing his old Oilers jersey while signed to another team. Clown move.
He wasn't wearing it

They should be kicking the can on provorov imo. Ufa to be so if things don't work out you can just walk away and he's making sub 5 million so if he does es work out the increase in cap hit if he were to be resigned wouldnt be debilitating to our cap.
I would try for him as well but would Columbus be willing to mail in the season now?

They Keifer Sherwood signing was a good one for VAN

Leading the league in hits and has 3G 3A for 1.5 Million. He hits like an animal lol. Just a hound. I remember the Cucks players told the GM he was a pain to play against

It seems to me that JJ refuses to budge off the Cap Space Accrual plan - something they needed to deep six the second after the offer sheets landed. Blindly sticking to Plan A may very well sink this teams cup aspirations.
It’s kinda damned if you do, damned if you don’t at this point isn’t it?

If you accrue you can add $4.6M in improvements at the deadline… so you could replace two league minimum guys on the roster with $3M players. Or your rotating 2RD becomes a $5M defender.

If you don’t accrue, you are pretty much dollar in, dollar out… you can replace one $1M contract with a $1.7M contract…. How does that move the needle? We don’t have that many larger or even mid-sized contracts that are underperforming and tradeable… Nuge maybe? That’s not happening. Maybe Kulak, for the top-4 $4M RD version of him?

There aren’t a lot of options to trade… our weak spot is a $1M RD playing top four… you need to spend $4-5M at that position to find a real upgrade and that’s why the accrual route lets it happen.

Do you see another (realistic) way?

I totally understand your post and agree with it. Trading now versus near the TDL is very difficult due to cap constraints, lack of availability on the trade market and probable overpayment to do so.

They could utilize Kane’s full LTIR now and then either move him (yes he has a limited NTC but those aren’t much of an obstacle for a motivated GM) or a combination of Skinner and Janmark. On the receiving end pay the price for double retention to lessen the cap hit.

As realistic a suggestion as I’ve got right now I suppose.

I think players mature more as they age, as do most human beings. I do not think Connor would rush back. He knows his body. This is not 2-9-1 is he rushing back to. It is basically 0.500

Stauffer usually doesn't call out management unless they are dead men walking. Very interesting that he'd be calling out Bowman and Jackson this early into each of their tenures here. Meanwhile Schwartz continues to be the teflon man.

Stauffer is Katz's mouthpiece, so this is doubly damaging for Bowman IMO that he has both ownership AND players on him so early based on that comment. He should have known what the team's two biggest weaknesses were but he not only stood pat on goaltending (and goalie coaching) but made the D worse by trading Ceci- a locker room favourite- and not filling the hole right away.

I do though blame Katz and Jackson for hiring someone who had very few active relationships with other GMs coming in. Bowman had been out of the league a long time relative to the pace GMs come and go, and it takes time to build that rapport- time we don't have. If he can't make something happen by US Thanksgiving and the teams stays at 0.500 I really wonder if he lasts until Christmas.

Talbot in 2016-17 is the only time I can remember goaltending being a strength for the Oilers during Schwartz's tenure and Talbot cratered the following year. I just don't understand how this guy has ultimate job security. Goaltending isn't getting it done, why not can this guy first and see if his replacement can't fix things?

When we were 0-3 I was listening to Oilers now and Stuaffer said something to the effect of "Oilers need to figure out why it is then can never get a save every single October."

Truer words have never been said, and this pre-dates Skinner. Talbot, Smith, Campbell and Koskinen had these issues every October as well. There's only one common thread there.

Yup, outside of that one year the Oilers goaltending has been average at best during his entire tenure. And it's always the same problems too: First shot goes in, bad glove, etc etc. People in the org have been canned for far less than this guy.

Ya considering the extensive recoveries he’s been through, I think it’s safe to assume he knows he’s ready
I feel he came back too early last year. He should sat out the heritage classic. He was hurt all last season. If he wasn’t he lost his hockey iq
